    EHS Representative

    Job Description

    • General
      • Build management systems for Environment, Health and Safety to enhance EH&S performance across the site, prepare Isando site for ISO 14000 certification
      • Ensure that all personnel are fully aware of SHE policies and procedures
      • Be aware of new or existing safety legislation, approved codes of practice, guidance notes, and government reports.
      • Build and develop strong relationships at all levels and in all areas of the business
      • Carry out EHS training programmes including co-ordinating FLT training as determined by frequency
    • Environment
      • Promote sustainable operations across site
      • Working towards global sustainability targets, this includes GRA findings
    • Health
      • Carry out pregnancy safety assessments as determined by OSHACT
      • Carry out workstation Assessments for Production and administrative environments
      • MSDS management, Tremcards for transport
      • Carry out manual handling training and assessment for productions, stores and despatch as determined by frequency requirements
      • Liaison with HR for the setup of medical provision for site – determine functionality of EHS role as Kaelo on site to cover medical provision needs on site
    • Contractual Services
      • Carry out induction’s as required for all contractors working on site
    • Systems
      • Assist with EHS assessments for Management of Change for product, process and equipment
      • Work with Regional EHS Manager on safety system development, writing policies, and procedures and work Instructions.
      • Assist with the collation of monthly reports internal and external
      • Co-ordinate safety Committee action tracking
      • Regulations updates – prepare and distribute updates, and training where required
      • Maintain EHS library - is Data Dynamics sufficient?
      • Establish safety imaging programme – assume full control and responsibility and lead this function
    • Contractor Control
      • Audit compliance of contractor Control systems, this includes CAS, SPCS, Servest, Steiner and Oricol from an EHS perspective
      • Provide support to maintenance on contractor control, this includes Engineering contractors, EHS specialist to determine the best suited person to conduct induction presence of engineering contractors on site
      • Work with permit to work system, eg hot work permits, effluent permits, waste disposal permits as determined in OSHACT.
    • Emergency Response
      • Support Operations team on emergency response issues; assist with scenario setting and training. – This to include 2 mock fire drill per annum to assess system suitability and evacuation lists
    • Inspections and audits
      • Issue planned inspection programme at start of year, regular follow-ups to ensure programme is being followed
      • Follow up and close out inspection actions for all outstanding audit findings
      • Assist with Corporate audits – this includes close-out of last GRA findings for Isando site
      • Assist with external audits – have deeper input in FSSC, AIB from an EHS perspective
    • Event reports
      • Follow up and close out event report actions.
      • Prepare event report data.- assume role of initiator
      • Assist with root cause analysis of high potential events.
    • Risk Management
      • Prepare and assist with the preparation of method statements, for contractual work done on site that may impact operational work
      • Carry out “permit to work” system audits – on an annual basis to assess system functionality
      • Act on the site HACCP team
    • Regulatory Affairs
      • Track actions against OSHACT, ensure Isando site is covered from GMR Act ×° requirements for appointment of formal stand-in.

    Required Skills

    • Working knowledge of occupational health issues
    • High energy levels and strong follow-through
    • Solid IT Skills in MS Office Applications
    • Willing to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities
    • Good team skills
    • Good written and verbal English language skills
    • Analysis of data experience
    • 5 years safety management experience

    Required Experience

    • Environmental and Safety Professional, qualified to Diploma or Graduate level
    • Solid grasp of Environmental & Safety Management Systems
