    Seating Therapist

    Job description

    Great opportunity to join Shonaquip Gauteng clinical  team and the Uhambo Foundation  a hybrid social enterprise committed to the vision of an inclusive society for all. Our focus remains strongly focused on children with disabilities and their families, and our methodology aims to build capacity across the whole ecosystem that supports children in their communities.
    The seating therapist will be part of the client facing team working across the social enterprise in order to holistically impact children and adults with mobility disabilities. The seating therapist will be based in Gauteng and will primarily be providing support and services for Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga. There may also be occasion to travel to other provinces in South Africa.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Individual Clients: The seating therapist will be responsible for the holistic management of 24 hour positioning of individual clients, in accordance with the World Health Organisation Guidelines on the Provision of Manual Wheelchairs in Less Resourced Settings (2008). This will entail providing positioning solutions through the assessment, fitting and review of individual clients.
    • Training and Mentoring: The seating therapist will be responsible for providing training and mentoring in collaboration with other team members in the Social Enterprise. Training will encompass parent and caregiver training as well as Shonaquip product specific training.
    • Networking and relationship building: The seating therapist will be given the opportunity to attend and present at relevant conferences, congresses and the like in order to raise awareness about the work of the SE and to connect with stakeholders and potential partners.
    • Design and Development: The seating therapist is encouraged to identify gaps in service and product design as well as work in partnership with the relevant teams to develop improved service models, delivery systems and new products and services.
    • Projects: The seating therapist will be involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects as related to clinical interventions and support including identifying the need for holistic projects, ensuring projects are aligned to SE strategy and involving all relevant stakeholders in the planning and implementation of projects.
    • We are looking for a therapist who is practical and hands on, hardworking, able to work independently as well in a team, is able to identify gaps or opportunities for capacity building in any environment and who is passionate about seating and impacting the ecosystem of children with disabilities.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • University Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
    • 3-5 years’ experience in practice
    • Basic Seating by Dare Consult, Intermediate Seating preferred
    • Willingness to travel around South Africa for at least 5 working days a month
