PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To The purpose of the position is to ensure that all cooling and heating apparatus in the University campuses function optimally in order that highly sophisticated, very expensive apparatus are kept within norms prescribed by the manufacturers

Requirements:

• Matric plus 3 Year Degree / Diploma (Mechanical)
• N3 with completed apprenticeship as an air conditioning technician;
• Trade test Certificate
• Knowledge on Industrial air conditioning systems;

Competency certificate

• Minimum of 4 years relevant experience with 3 years in the maintenance of a HVAC in multi-purpose facility.
• Contract and contractor’s Management knowledge
• Experience in the supervision of staff
• A high level of verbal and written communication skills
• Good organisational and administrative skills
• Knowledge of supply chain management processe

Duties:

• Receive, interpret, priorities, requests for repairs analyse and evaluate the nature and complexity of the problem reported
• Perform risk assessment (Cost/effect on business/safety etc.)
• Order spares needed (Stores) or liaise with external suppliers
• Repair equipment and Follow up on repairs done
• Perform daily inspection on all HVAC related equipment
• Develop maintenance plan for area of responsibility, execute the plan and compile report
• Develop inspection sheet, conduct inspections at required interval on all HVA related equipment and keep record
• Monitor and repair HVAC equipment i.e. heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems including fans, air cleaners and filters, pumps, evaporation condenses, cooling towers, freezing chambers, freezing units, heaters, self-contained air conditioning units, humidifiers and fire pumps.
• Conduct tests on cooling apparatus and read drawings in order to trace faults
• Identify and define improvement projects e.g. power saving, bms processes
• Execute the project
• Evaluate project success and close out
• Maintenance operation, monitoring and programming of operational management systems
• Monitor BMS performance and develop and provide management information reports
• Conduct fault finding, repair faults and identify work allocated
• Assist with installation of new systems
• Program BMS according to internal client requests e.g. musical – and academic events
• Attend to client queries, follow up and provide feedback
• Training and development of Air conditioning assistants
• Allocate tasks to be executed
• Monitors performance of assistant and conduct assessment
• Motivates, coach and mentor the Air conditioning assistant
• Ensure that equipment in own area complies with the necessary Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations
• Ensure that Air Conditioning Assistants comply with the University's SHE Policies and

Occupational Health and Safety regulations
