Accounts Payable Accountant at Astron Energy (Pty) Ltd.

Job Description

• Astron Energy is an integrated downstream crude oil refinery and refined oil products marketing business with operations across South Africa and Botswana.
• Responsible for performing accounting duties related to the efficient maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions, preparing analysis of accounts as well as maintaining confidentiality of organizational information.

Responsibilities:

Control and Perform Month-End Related Tasks:

• Ensure all transactions  are accurate and complete and processed within the correct month,

Monthly General Ledger reconciliations 

• Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations for Accounts Payable.
• Follow up on open items and outstanding items.

Accounts Payable Controls 

• Run various reports to control and manage
• Perform GR / IR control
• Perform Duplicate Payment control
• Perform Debit Balance control
• Perform Blocked payment control
• Performance standards in terms of query resolution and maintaining favorable business and ethical relationships with vendors. Potential exists that if this not adequately performed, vendors may stop supplying causing business interruption.
• Crucial to this role therefore is the analysis of vendor accounts, saving of interest combined with the need for strong interpersonal relations with Business Units, Other departments (Treasury, Credits) and external banks (confirmations, payment recalls etc.)and Accenture Accounts Payable dept.
• Monitor Vendor Ageing and Foreign Payments
• Perform and analyze daily EFT payment runs.
• Adhere to and design internal control processes
• Key member in system upgrades relating to Accounts Payable
• Involvement in any SAP/FIORI / ARIBA enhancements relevant to Accounts Payable area testing

Professional Qualification and Certifications: 

• B. Com Accounting Degree or equivalent Accounting qualification (required)

Experience and skillset required:

• 1-2 Years work experience required
• MS Office (Required),
• SAP (Preferred),
• Ariba (Preferred)

Desirable Experience: 

Candidates should also demonstrate experience and/or awareness of the following:

• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles including (but not limited to) Accounts payable
• Management of external and internal audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented with no repeat findings
• Internal control and adherence to Compliance policies
