Artisan Plumber REF NO: KDHC 14/2026 at KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health

REQUIREMENTS :

• Minimum Education Qualification: Grade 12.
• Completed apprenticeship and passing trade test in term of provisions of section 13 (2) (h) of the Manpower Training Act of 1981.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience post trade test experience on plumbing trade related plant and equipment.
• Valid code 08 drivers’ licence.

Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, and Competencies Required:

• Sound knowledge of the occupational health and safety act.
• Technical and practical skills and experience of the trade.
• Good knowledge of standby hospital plant machinery / all underground piping systems.
• Safe working procedures, isolation procedures as stipulated by the OHS act.
• Good verbal and written communication, problem solving, conflict resolutions skills and good interpersonal relations, planning, organizing, customer focus and responsiveness, decision making, team leadership.
• Computer literacy.
• Insight and knowledge on legal compliance.
• Management of staff (Human Resources and Labour Relations), compilation of reports and performance management reports.

DUTIES :

• Visual checks and repairs of all plant and equipment under his/her supervision i.e., all water pipes / conduct monthly water reading and quarterly water testing.
• Plan and carry out all major maintenance plumbing works carried out in the hospital.
• Inspect all new and existing works as completed by contractors.
• Exercise control of tradesman aid and handyman under his/her supervision Daily reporting of fault, job progress on job cards, time sheets and material stock.
• Oversee and manage hospital maintenance inclusive of day to day, emergency, routine / preventative maintenance.
• Manage human resources effectively & efficiently and promote sound labour relations.
• Perform administrative and related functions.
• Maintain and advance expertise: Continuous individual development to keep up with new technologies and procedures.
• Research/literature studies on technical/engineering technology to improve expertise.
• The incumbent will be expected to do Standby duties, work overtime and extended hours.
