AWS Data Engineer at Salt South Africa

Job Summary:

• We are seeking a skilled and motivated AWS Data Engineer to join a leading retailer in Cape Town. This mid-level role offers the opportunity to work on exciting analytics-driven projects within a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in building and maintaining scalable data solutions using AWS technologies. Certification in AWS will be advantageous but is not a strict requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using AWS tools and services.
• Work closely with analytics teams to support business intelligence and reporting requirements.
• Optimize data workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of data solutions with existing systems.
• Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with relevant standards and policies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data issues promptly.
• Perform data analysis and profiling to support decision-making processes.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3-5 years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a focus on AWS tools and technologies.
• Strong understanding of AWS services such as S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, Athena, and EMR.
• Hands-on experience with ETL pipelines and data migration in cloud environments.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, or other scripting languages.
• Familiarity with analytics and data visualization tools.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to work with large data sets and identify trends or anomalies.
• AWS certification (preferred but not required).
