Banking Bookkeeper (Trusts) at Bowmans (Law Firm)

Experience and Qualification:

• Diploma in Accounting or Bcom Accounting degree preferable
• 3-5 years’ experience in financial accounting within a trust and treasury environment
• Knowledge of Legal Practice Council Act & Rules for Attorneys’ Profession
• Knowledge of FICA and FATCA beneficial
• Experience with online banking systems beneficial
• Experience in foreign currency transactions beneficial
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office
• Proficient in report writing and documenting processes

Note: This position will require flexibility in working hours. It is also expected that the person will work some overtime from time to time as the need arises.

Job Accountabilities:

• Review attorney trust transactions, understand and ensure the transactions are completed accurately and timeously in accordance with trust checklists, AVS (account verification service) and in compliance with Rules of the Attorneys’ Profession and the Legal Practice Act.
• Ensure that investment requirements, exchange control requirements related to trust transactions are understood, communicated correctly and adhered to.
• Investigate trust balances on an ongoing basis, and provide updated schedule with feedback regularly.
• Monitor unidentified/unallocated business and trust receipts
• Ensure timeous response to all trust queries received internally and externally
• Liase with auditors on trust audit
• Assist in compiling accurate reconciliation of trust and business bank accounts – SA & East Africa. Query and resolve unreconciled entries
• Prepare and/or complete documentation (letters, applications, etc.) to financial institutions and regulators.
• Compile documentation on process, procedures and internal controls in place, for all treasury related transactions (business and trust)
• Compile revaluation report of all bank accounts at month end
• Complete interest reasonability at month end
• Prepare and collate report of cash deposits for SA weekly
• Ensure trust ageing report is run for SA and East Africa at month end, and agrees to the Balance Sheet.
• Forex trading – selling of forex
• Assist in compiling actual cash report
• Assist in designated and identified treasury projects and initiatives
• Capture ad hoc bank related vouchers
• Process requisitions and journals at month end, accurately and timeously, for certain banking expenses
• Complete ad hoc tasks accurately and timeously as and when required
