    CAE Engineer (Furnaces) – Sandton

    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
     
    Proven experience as CAE Engineer or similar role, preferably in the furnace design engineering industry.
    Experience in programming and scripting languages (e.g Python, MATLAB) is a plus.
    Project engineering experience is advantageous.
     

    • Solid understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and structural analysis principles.
    • Ability to tackle problems from first principles and perform reduced-order hand calculations.
    • Familiarity with industry standards and codes relevant to furnace design and performance.
    • Knowledge of materials science and their behaviour at high temperatures.
    • Sound knowledge and understanding of chemical reactions and mass balance calculations.
    • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Windows and be comfortable with licence server administration.
    • CAD/Parametric/Direct modelling fundamentals is a must. Autodesk Inventor and Ansys Space Claim experience is a plus.
    • Utilise CAE tools and simulations to perform thermal and structural analysis of furnace designs.
    • Conduct fluid dynamics simulations to optimise flow patterns, predict combustion kinetics, and quantify heat transfer efficiency for both internal and external clients.
    • Conduct thermal and structural analyses using finite element suites both for internal and external clients.
    • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop innovative furnace design concepts.
    • Evaluate and validate designs against industry standards, codes, and customer requirements.
    • Generate detailed reports and technical documentation to communicate analysis results and recommendations.
    • Participate in design reviews, providing insights and suggestions for design improvements.
    • Work closely with the manufacturing and commissioning teams to ensure design feasibility and successful implementation.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancement in CAE tools, techniques, and industry best practices.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance during the manufacturing and commissioning phases.
    • Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
    • Author, co-author and present journal articles, conference papers and UGMs.
    • May from time to time be required to execute package/project engineering functions.
    • Enquire, procure and manage CAE orders with external CAE consultants when required.
