    Category Lead

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    The purpose of the role is to provide leadership to the team in ensuring Operation’s Supply/Procurement needs are strategically matched with the market, takes responsibility for supplier management and development as well as contract administration and engages with the team to track and monitor performance targets of optimal cost of ownership and surety of supply.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    Supporting the Head of Supply and Governance in the following areas:

    Strategic Sourcing and Contract Management, which includes the following:

    • Effective sourcing strategies through cross functional data analysis ensuring supply effectiveness and competitiveness;
    • Monitor expectations, understanding and application of Supply Category Management processes within the team to support compliance with local requirements;
    • Lead negotiation effort with suppliers and create opportunities for effective relationships while pressing for cost effectiveness and reliable delivery.
    • Execute market intelligence and analysis to build robust category and sourcing strategies to drive effective utilization of the supply base to maintain competitive advantage for the Asset.
    • Develop the local procurement plan for span of control with collaboration from operations and ED / SD sub-function.
    • Review category strategies and spend to ensure cost effectiveness, optimal contract portfolio and process automation;
    • Validate application of procedures for issuing and evaluating tenders, reviews contract award recommendation and approval
    • Ensure all aspects of contract performance and administration is managed effectively and efficiently.
    • Develop and implement Preferential Procurement, Enterprise and Supplier Development strategies for ring-fenced opportunities that support optimise the BBBEE Scorecard.

    Governance, which includes the following:

    • Validate that frameworks, policies and practices established for the sub-function are applied
    • Provide guidance to the Category Manager and Head of Supply on category risk management and relevant mitigating actions
    • Influence and promote transformation projects and align to regulatory framework related to Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) as well as Mining Charter.

    Stakeholder Management, which includes the following:

    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal business leaders to understand business objectives, plans and requirements Facilitating the completion of action items from the meetings of the various bodies.
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal business leaders to understand business objectives, plans and requirements.
    • Support Sub-Function with performance and insights on the management of Supply risk and the relevant mitigating actions.
    • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure optimum delivery quality and sustained performance in line with business objectives;
    • Coordinate with operations to ensure category strategies and contract and contract coverage adequately supports maintenance strategies, 2-year budget and execution plans;
    • Drive continuous improvement, best value and quality improvements within the department and cross functionally in challenging existing practices and actively seek ways to achieve better outcomes, contributing to ensure key performance and financial targets are met and corrective actions taken when necessary.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • Commercial Degree or Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain
    • Supply Chain related qualification (MCIPS preferable)

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • Up to 5 years industry/supply experience.
    • Strategic sourcing experience, Inclusive Procurement sourcing
    • Mining industry experience (advantageous)
    • Mining Charter and BBBEE Codes of good practise knowledge and understanding.
