Job Description

This role leads the Technology and Platform tribe. The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for creating the enterprise-wide technology vision and strategy pertaining to the core platforms, cloud, security, data and digital. The CTO will be responsible for instituting the enterprise wide technology governance, engineering centre of excellence and ensuring service resilience framework is adhered to across the organisation along with providing the thought leadership pertaining to technology innovation and core technology capabilities for the group.

• Defines an IT strategy in accordance with business and technological drivers and promote best practice guidelines through continuous improvement
• Working with Chief Information officer to define and implement industry leading practices, policies and processes in terms of IT portfolio management, IT Risk management and governance, technology architecture etc.
• To ensure that appropriate IT governance and controls are in place across the group as compliance with regulatory controls. Representing Old Mutual at various IT industry forums as applicable
• Leading the innovation in collaboration with the Chief Information Officer and Chief Digital Officer that Old Mutual remains on the cutting edge of innovation by researching and recommending appropriate technology investments in line with the latest developments and trends
• Driving and directing technology strategic projects in collaboration with the CIO that is aligned to business requirements and direction.
• Development and mentoring of IT leaders and emerging talent across the group
• Provide relevant information on both income and expenditure budgets for the functional area to prepare accurate financial forecasts in support of the business goals
• Identify, facilitate and drive synergies and collaboration opportunities technology and platform tribe
• Draw up service level agreements to meet client expectations
• Ensure quality and quantity of service delivery in support of service level agreements
• Manage and drive key technology partnerships to ensure value and efficiencies
• Drive the engineering culture and provide the space for growth and visibility on the latest technology trends.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience (Required For The Job)

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and A minimum of 10 years solid experience in a complex, heterogeneous and distributed IT environment
• A minimum of 15 years experience as a senior IT professional in a large and complex corporate environment, preferably in the insurance (financial services) sector
• Significant experience leading a software engineering capability, developing, running and scaling cutting-edge technology solutions and platforms
• A proven track record in managing large scale IT projects in a decentralized organizational structure
