• A Vacancy exists for a Civil Artisan reporting to the Technical Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repairing of plumbing systems (water pipes, drainpipes and gas pipes) in the hospital.
• This includes new installation, repairing pipes, fixtures, and appliances, as well as ensuring compliance with building codes and safety standards. The plumber will also be responsible for daily maintenance checks to ensure preventative maintenance.

Critical Outputs

• Ensure that maintenance (plumbing work new installations and repairs) is executed timely and according to agreed standards
• Ensure compliance with LHC Engineering policy standards, DOH Regulation 158, LHC Permit to work system, other relevant legislation and OSH Act.
• Installing new plumbing systems which include laying pipes, setting toilets, installing faucets and other fixtures in the hospital.
• Repairing and replacing broken pipes and fixtures, fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing worn-out parts.
• Replacing or repairing appliances which include water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines and any other related equipment used in the hospital.
• Installing and maintaining gas pipelines for heating and cooking or other pipelines in the hospital.
• Performing preventive maintenance which involves regular inspections and adjustments to plumbing systems to prevent future problems.
• Diagnose and solve problems like leaks, clogs, and low water pressure.
• Conduct tests to ensure systems are functioning correctly and meet safety standards.
• Performa any other maintenance and repair work as directed or delegated by the Technical Services Manager.

• Familiar with safe workshop practice.
• Basic understanding of OHS act.
• Basic understanding of domestic electrical systems, plumbing & carpentry.

Requirements

• Grade 12
• N6 certificate or higher.
• Technical Trade Certificate in plumbing is essential.
• A minimum of 3 years’ post apprenticeship working experience.
• Previous hospital or similar facility maintenance experience would be an advantage.
• Current driver’s license would be an added advantage
