    Civil Designer Level II - JHB

    General Purpose of Role

    • To prepare and carry out complete and detailed drafting work: including translating conceptual designs into detailed 2D and 3D working engineering drawings for reinforced concrete foundations and structures.
    • To perform all delegated legitimate tasks within the discipline.
    • Development in the utilization of relevant regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices for the control, development, and application of deliverables while gaining exposure to procedures and processes.
    • Works under the broad direction and receives detailed instructions on matters not covered by standard procedures.  
    • Work is reviewed periodically and is checked for accuracy and adequacy upon completion of assignments.

    Additional Technical Information

    • Ensure that all relevant information for draughting is at hand before commencing drawing.
    • Review and analyse specifications, rough sketches, drawings, ideas, and related engineering / architectural data to assess factors affecting plant / structure / component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
    • Utilize the relevant Project Directory to perform draughting work.
    • Draft plans and detailed engineering drawings and designs for structures, installations, and construction projects as required by the project. 
    • Utilise approved software and other analysis tools in drafting / drawing designs for customer projects, develop detailed design drawings and specifications for specified plant / components / structures, using approved computer-assisted draughting (CAD) equipment.
    • Effect Design Engineer instructions and comments onto drawings.
    • Verify that the content of the drawing is correct to your own satisfaction before a check print of any drawing is presented for checking.
    • Ensure that the work is of the highest standard is accurately done according to the information / brief given.
    • Remove all clutter / unnecessary duplicated dimensions and superfluous information from the drawing.
    • Do own back draughting, once drawing has been checked.
    • Investigate each and every correction/comment the Checker made and only effect such change if satisfied with the validity thereof. If not in agreement with any comments by the Checker: discuss the issue and if agreement is not reached, refer to the Section Leader to arbitrate and decide the course of action.
    • Upon completion of back-drafting, do a fresh print of the corrected drawing and give to the Checker, together with the original check print for back-checking.
    • This check print is marked check print 2 and any comments / changes not affected is marked up on this copy and handed back to the draughtsperson for rectification. Before issuing any drawing, ensure that all signatures have been obtained and that the drawing status has been changed. (Drawing reflects next revision).
    • Issue final Drawing. Document details of the drawing, drawing changes and specifications before submitting final drawing to client.
    • Ensure technical integrity, safety design and, quality in the lifecycle of the project. Strictly adhere to all Drawing office Policies, standards, procedures, and workflows. Ensure conformance to client and / Design Engineer specifications, company standards as well as other regulatory requirements. 
    • Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems. 
    •  Liaise closely with the Engineer whose designs are drawn up.  
    •  Assist with obtaining customer approval on design drawings.
    • As a Senior Draughtsperson, Improve/update and incorporate project or customer requirements with respect to quality and performance.
    • Assist with continuous improvement of systems and procedures for the flow of information into and around the Drawing Office.

    Typical Qualifications

    • Awarded a 2- or 3-year technical diploma/certificate with specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Registration as an Associate with the SA Institute of draughting Personal drive to progress to Technologist Registration with ECSA / SACAP (South African Architectural Professions). 3+ years of relevant discipline experience.
    • Has an intermediate understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industrial standard practices.
    • Inferred understanding and capability to apply Worley MS.
    • Inferred understanding of SEAL and its application to design for technical integrity: for constructability, operability and maintainability.  
    • Basic applied knowledge AutoCAD, Revit and rebar mate software/applications.
    • National, industry codes and standards and client specifications.
