Civil Technician (Fixed-term) at SMEC

The role

• This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and energized Civil Technician to join a leading infrastructure consultancy and contribute to the growth and development of a business with a reputation for technical excellence and strong client relationships.

Reports To

• Section Manager or any other person appointed to supervise him/her from time to time.

Primary Position Purpose

• Provide drafting services and prepare documentation for projects as well as provide other appropriate technical support.

Key Responsibilities
With a minimum of 1 year of experience, the key responsibilities are:

• Ensuring projects are documented within guidelines set by supervisor
• Producing efficient, high quality drawings and documentation
• Ensuring tasks are completed to program
• Able to use office systems relevant to tasks
• Understanding the use and importance of standards in the application of software tools
• Ensuring appropriate technical and drawing standards and quality procedures are maintained on all projects
• Attending technical discussions and project delivery meetings
• Taking ownership and responsibility for own work
• Various design work
• Efficient use of basic design packages such as Prokon and AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Checking designs on a technical level done by supervisors and superiors and providing input as to where the designs could be made more feasible or rational using theoretical knowledge
• Interaction with contractors, architects and external consultants
• Conducting site inspections on a regular basis – he/she should have a good understanding of the drawing and design pertaining to the elements under inspection
• Attendance of site meetings
• Providing solutions to problems pertaining to construction methods on site
• Applying technical knowledge to drawings and designs undertaken
• Ability to resolve conflicts on site, or between external consultants, making sure to not aggravate any arising issues and solve conflicts in an ethical manner
• Monitoring works and enforcing quality standards/specifications

Recommended Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required

• National Diploma in Civil Engineering
• 1 to 3 years of experience in structural CAD and detailing
• Experience in the use of CAD systems
