    Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist (Post Level 8) (Job ID: 6592) - (2271)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Act in accordance with the scope of practice and ethical guidelines as set out by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
    • Provide individual psychotherapy, group counselling, career counselling and academic support. 
    • Participate in the crisis intervention programme.
    • Create and present developmental workshops and programmes for students.
    • Liaise with university departments, management or other healthcare professionals.
    • Perform non-direct service activities (e.g. maintenance of client records, case management, research and office administration).
    • Market the Student Counselling & Development services.

    Conduct research 

    • Participate in continuous Professional Development and Training.
    • Liaise with external stakeholders.
    • Participate in Key Strategic Areas within Student Affairs, Sports, Arts and Culture.

    Inherent requirements:

    • A Master's degree in Counselling/Clinical Psychology on NQF Level 9.
    • Active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the category Counselling/Clinical Psychology (attach proof).
    • Minimum one (1) years' experience working therapeutically with students in Higher Education, or in working therapeutically with young adults, and an involvement in student/young adults' life activities or initiatives. 

    Recommendations:

    • Two (2) years' relevant experience within a counselling setting in a higher education environment.
    • Proven experience in providing career counselling to young adults. 
    • Proven experience in providing trauma counselling to young adults. 
    • Sesotho and/ or Zulu speaking.

    • The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude and encourage people to work together.

    Building Coalitions:

    • The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others.
    • The ability to interact with others and establish personal connections with people.
