    Construction Manager - Civils / Roads and Earthworks Divisions

    • We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management, execution and coordination of civil engineering projects or sections of multidisciplinary contracts, with a focus on roads, earthworks and associated infrastructure. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, the role provides leadership across construction operations, commercial performance, compliance, stakeholder engagement and project delivery to ensure projects are completed safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

    Responsibilities:

    Project Execution and Delivery

    • Take full accountability for project or section delivery in line with scope, programme and budget requirements.
    • Plan, manage and execute civil construction works in accordance with approved programmes, drawings and specifications.
    • Develop, monitor and update detailed construction programmes, including short-term and look-ahead planning.
    • Lead and coordinate daily site operations across engineering, foremen, subcontractors, plant, materials and safety functions.
    • Oversee roads, earthworks, drainage, layerworks, services and associated civil infrastructure works.
    • Monitor productivity, plant utilisation and resource performance, implementing corrective actions where required.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and optimise project performance.

    Resource, Commercial and Financial Management         

    • Manage labour, plant, materials and subcontractors to achieve productivity, cost and quality objectives.
    • Monitor site costs, expenditure and commercial performance against approved budgets.
    • Support quantity surveying functions through accurate measurements, variation claims and cost reporting.
    • Attend commercial meetings and contribute to project forecasting, reporting and profitability management.
    • Coordinate procurement and logistics activities to support uninterrupted project delivery.

    Experience:

    • 10-15 years’ experience managing construction projects or contracts.
    • Proven experience on civil infrastructure projects, including roads, earthworks and services.
    • Experience working on multidisciplinary construction projects.
    • Strong background in site execution, subcontractor management and contract compliance.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
    • Professional registration as a PrCM (Professional Construction Manager) with the SACPCMP.

    Added Advantages:

    • Experience working under GCC, NEC, FIDIC or JBCC
    • Sound knowledge of COLTO, COTO, SANRAL and SANS
    • Experience with digital construction tools such as GPS and Total Station.
    • Experience with Word, Excel, MS Projects, CCS and mobile QA/QC platforms.
    • Exposure to labour-intensive public-sector projects and SMME development initiatives.
