Construction Supervisor – Mining Projects

• Our client, a leading mining company based in Mooinooi, North West, is seeking an experienced Construction Supervisor to oversee and coordinate construction activities associated with mining infrastructure, earthworks, and related capital projects.
• The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising on-site construction activities, contractors, equipment, safety compliance, quality standards and project execution.
• The role requires a hands-on construction professional with solid mining experience, particularly within earthworks, civil construction, mining infrastructure or mineral processing environments.

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field.
• Project Management qualification will be advantageous.
• Valid Blasting Certificate or Mine Overseer's Certificate will be advantageous but is not essential.
• Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in construction supervision within the mining environment.
• Mining experience is essential.
• Proven experience supervising earthworks, civil construction, mining infrastructure, TSF, WRD or related mining projects.
• Experience supervising contractors, subcontractors and multiple work fronts.
• Experience working within an operational mining environment.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, earthmoving operations and site activities.
• Good knowledge of construction regulations, health and safety requirements and industry best practices.
• Strong contractor, workforce and site coordination skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction methodologies.

Roles & Responsibilities

Construction Site Supervision

• Supervise and coordinate day-to-day construction activities on mining projects.
• Ensure construction work is completed according to approved drawings, specifications, scope of work and project schedules.
• Supervise earthworks, excavations, embankments, roads, drainage, TSF, WRD and associated mining infrastructure.
• Monitor daily construction progress and ensure work fronts remain productive.
• Conduct regular site inspections and identify construction issues requiring attention.

Contractor & Workforce Management

• Supervise contractors, subcontractors, plant operators and site personnel.
• Monitor contractor productivity, workmanship, quality and compliance with site requirements.
• Coordinate labour, plant, equipment and materials required for construction activities.
• Conduct toolbox talks, site meetings and daily coordination activities.
• Address site-level issues and escalate matters where required.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Ensure all construction activities comply with MHSA requirements, site safety procedures and approved risk assessments.
• Promote a strong safety culture across all construction activities.
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections and incident investigations.
• Ensure correct PPE, permits and safe work procedures are followed.
• Monitor environmental compliance and housekeeping across construction areas.

Construction Planning & Progress

• Assist with construction planning, scheduling and resource requirements.
• Monitor progress against project schedules and report delays or potential risks.
• Identify resource constraints, construction risks and site challenges and escalate these accordingly.
• Assist with tracking project milestones and construction deliverables.

Quality & Technical Supervision

• Inspect completed and ongoing work to ensure compliance with approved designs and specifications.
• Monitor workmanship and construction quality.
• Liaise with engineers, surveyors, consultants and project management teams regarding technical and construction matters.
• Review construction methodologies and ensure work is executed in accordance with approved procedures.

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain accurate daily site records, construction reports and inspection documentation.
• Prepare regular progress updates and report on construction activities, challenges and achievements.
• Record contractor performance, site issues and corrective actions.
• Ensure construction documentation is properly maintained.

Stakeholder & Site Coordination

• Maintain effective working relationships with contractors, engineers, project managers, mining operations and other site stakeholders.
• Attend project and construction meetings and provide updates on site progress.
• Coordinate activities between different contractors and work fronts.
• Assist with project handover, snagging and close-out activities.
