The Data Steward is responsible for leading a team of Master Data employees and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the organization's master data within the SAP system.
This role requires the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, finance, supply chain, and other business units, to establish and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and standards within the SAP environment.
The Data Steward will also be responsible for managing the data stewardship process, including data quality checks, issue resolution, and ongoing maintenance within SAP.
Key Requirements:
Lead a team of Master Data employees, ensuring they have the necessary resources and training to perform their duties effectively within the SAP environment
Establish and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and standards within the SAP environment to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the organization's master data within SAP
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality, identify data-related issues within SAP, and develop and implement solutions to address them
Manage the data stewardship process within SAP, including data quality checks, issue resolution, and ongoing maintenance within SAP
Monitor and report on data quality metrics, trends, and issues within SAP, and develop strategies to improve data quality over time within SAP
Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations, including POPIA, GDPR, and other relevant laws and regulations within the SAP environment
Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on data governance policies, procedures, and standards within SAP
Maintain documentation of data governance policies, procedures, and standards, as well as data quality issues and resolution processes within SAP
Serve as a subject matter expert on data governance and master data management within SAP, providing guidance and advice to stakeholders as needed
Integrate RACM (Risk and Controls Matrix) activities by identifying key risks and controls related to data governance processes, maintaining and updating the RACM, and ensuring controls are tested and documented in line with compliance requirements.
Support Process &Control Improvement initiatives by collaborating on process improvement projects, implementing control enhancements, and driving continuous improvement in data governance and related SAP processes.
Perform periodic control assessments and audits to validate compliance with internal policies and external regulations, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Education and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in data governance, master data management, or related field, with at least 3 years of experience working with SAP
Strong understanding of data governance policies, procedures, and standards, as well as data privacy and security regulations within the SAP environment
Experience leading a team of Master Data employees or other data management professionals within SAP
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and identify opportunities for improvement within SAP
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization within SAP
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment within SAP
