Estimator (Renewable Energy Projects) - Construction Industry
RPO Recruitment's client, a reputable construction company in South Africa is currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator with proven experience in renewable energy projects to join their dynamic team.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in the preconstruction phase, preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for solar and wind installations across commercial, industrial, and utility-scale markets.
Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind farms, battery storage, and EV charging infrastructure
Analyse drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labour estimates
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and subcontractors to develop complete and competitive bids
Identify cost-saving opportunities and evaluate project risks
Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
Maintain a database of unit costs and historical pricing for future project use
Assist in bid reviews, proposal development, and value engineering exercises
Monitor industry trends, construction costs, and renewable energy technology developments
Requirements:
BTech/BSc degree in Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or similar
Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction estimating work with at least 5 years’ proven experience in the renewable energy sector
Strong understanding of renewable energy systems and components (e.g., PV modules, inverters, racking systems, wind turbines, battery storage)
Proficiency in relevant software packages including CCS, Bluebeam, and MS Office
Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines
