Field Medical Excellence Lead (JHB North) at Aspen Pharma Group

OBJECTIVE OF ROLE

The Field Medical Excellence Lead role is to lead, coach and oversee activities of the field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team across Aspen’s therapeutic areas to ensure:

• The delivery of scientific information, gathering insights to guide the development and commercialization of products, and contributing to the broader medical and clinical strategy of the company.
• Accurate, clear and valued information is provided to the scientific/medical community by MSLs, thereby building strong credible relationships.
• Support MSLs execution of scientific engagement plans 
• Field observations & insights are shared with Internal stakeholders 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team responsibilities of conducting scientific engagement and responding to unsolicited requests for information regarding Aspen &Alliance products and pipeline molecules
• Provide support/resources to allow MSLs to Educate and communicate clinical value, outcomes, and economic data to payers, providers, key stakeholders, advocacy, and access enablers
• Align with Medical leadership to develop MSL strategies and tactics in support of Therapeutic Area (TA) products and pipeline molecules
• Observe field interactions, coach, mentor, and support development of direct reports
• Drive compliance to Aspens Policies and regulatory authorities.
• Clearly communicate MSL role, direction, and expectations to the field as per the scientific engagement plan
• Allocate team resources consistent with priorities
• Advise on TA MSL team sizing, time allocation, and reporting structures
• Represent Aspen by supporting advisory boards, congresses, and professional association meetings
• Foster compliant cross-functional collaboration and communication with commercial and value/access field management
• OPEX management

Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

• MBChB, Masters’ degree or PhD in life science

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• At least 5 years’ experience as a Medical Science Liaison
• Minimum 7years industry experience in Medical Affairs
• Current familiarity with healthcare environment including key opinion leaders, academia, the medical community, patient needs and related dynamics
• 3 years managerial experience (directly managing people &/experience in leading teams, projects, programs
• Understanding of Medical Affairs Regulations including compliance to regulatory bodies
• Willingness to travel locally & internationally

An understanding of:

• Legal, ethical and compliance requirements of the Medical Affairs function.
• The Medical Science Liaison role
• The healthcare environment including key opinion leaders, academia, the medical community, patient needs and related dynamics
• Reporting tools (Veeva CRM, CRS expense, etc)
