    Financial Accountant

    Role Description

    The financial accountant is responsible for the preparation, development and analysis of financial information. The accountant will maintain the accounting system in accordance with standard operating procedures and internal controls of the organisation. Responsibilities include cloud based bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, reconciliations, budgets, reporting and financial admin. The accountant will work closely with the financial manager to prepare various reports to internal and external stakeholders and ensure continuous improvement to the financial processes in line with best practices. Together with the financial manager, the goal is to build capacity in the finance department leveraging technology and cloud-based solutions to streamline processes for the operational teams and provide quality and timeous financial information to the leadership team to inform strategic decision making.

     

    Salary

    R25,000 per month (Negotiable based on experience)

    Salary inclusive of the following benefits:

    • 5% Pension Fund Contribution - employer
    • Death and Disability Funds – employer
    • Annual leave -  20 days

     

    Responsibilities

    Key performance metrics

    • The accountant will be responsible for the on-time delivery of financial information according to the various reporting deadlines
    • The financial manager will conduct monthly KPI sessions with the accountant assessing the following key metrics:
      • Complete and accurate recording of information

      • Quality on-time reporting

      • Interactions with greater team and external stakeholders

    Compilation of monthly management accounts

    • Correct allocation and tracking of expenses
    • Tracking and reporting of expenses to regional teams
    • Monitoring spending against budget
    • Analysis of spending & recommendations for better cost management
    • Preparing reports for exco and board

    Accounting/processing/bookkeeping

    • Processing invoices (using Xero and Receipt Bank)
    • Capturing & tracking open purchase orders
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Account reconciliations
    • Month end journals

    VAT & Tax

    • Detailed analysis of VAT
    • Preparation of VAT reconciliations
    • Submission of VAT returns to SARS (bi-monthly)
    • Managing VAT & SARS queries, reviews and audits
    • Submission of annual tax return

    Payroll

    • Loading & processing payroll
    • EMP submissions

    Banking admin

    • Supplier administration
    • Loading of new suppliers on banking platform
    • Capturing weekly payments

    Donor reporting, fundraising proposals and adhoc requests

    • Preparation of donor reporting
    • Compilation of financial information for fundraising and grant proposals
    • Preparation of Section18A certificates
    • Reporting to other partners
    • Team queries

    Preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasting

    • Preparation of initial budget inputs and quarterly forecasting
    • Preparation of regional budgets and training to staff on analysing & measuring against budgets and forecasts

    Design and implementation of new systems, processes and internal controls

    • Research into best practice
    • Improvements and implementation of standard operating procedures, financial policies across the organisation
    • Design pilot/trial for new systems and implementation and monitoring

     

    Requirements

    • SAIPA / SAICA articles completed with relevant degree
    • Minimum 2 years’ relevant post article experience
    • Strong communication skills
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Xero experience preferred
    • Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, outlook, and power point (google suite experience is a bonus)
    • Non-profit experience is a bonus
