Flavourist Assistant at International Flavors & Fragrances

Job Description

We are currently searching for our next Flavorist Assistant to join our Creation team in Isando, South Africa. In this role you will work under the instruction of Creative Flavorists to support the development of new flavors for customers and introduction of new ingredients to the C&D community. 

• Understand and support formulation process including accurate compounding of flavors, raw material handling and measuring analytical properties.
• Maintain organized laboratory conditions, manage, and transfer raw materials and flavor stocks.
• Observe laboratory and plant safety rules and GMP’s.
• Interface with cross-category departments including applications, sales, QC and sensory as necessary for completion of job tasks.
• Apply flavors into bases and participate in tasting and product evaluations.
• Prepare raw materials for evaluation.
• Understand key steps in projects from creation to application, production, and scale up.
• Build basic understanding of C&D and R&D library/tools in IFF toolbox.
• Support customer visits when needed

Job Requirements

Required Skills 

• Strong computer skills, Microsoft Office, and other IFF systems as introduced and required.
• Strong practical math skills (e.g., calculating and preparing dilutions of flavoring materials, flavor creations and applications, etc.)
• Good communication skills both written & verbal. English required.
• Disciplined, good time management & process oriented.
• Accuracy, attention to detail and analytical skills
• Ability and willingness to collaborate.
• Well organized self-starter with desire to develop new skills.
• Ability to taste and discriminate sensory properties of flavors & applications.

Required  Experience 

• Two/Four Year Degree, in food or chemical science preferred.
•  Alternately, a minimum of 3 years industrial laboratory or chemical industry work experience, coupled with a strong desire and ability to continue education and professional development and growth
