General Accounting Supervisor at Anglo American

Job Description:

As a General Accounting Supervisor you will ensure delivery of in-scope statutory and general accounting activities to Anglo American business units (EMEA). You will also support the Financial Reporting Coordinator in delivering timely, accurate and complete financial information to stakeholders. You will also be responsible for: 

• Responsibility for month-end close activities.

• Ensure the integrity of the balance sheet by reviewing general ledger balance sheet reconciliations, investigate and report on financial discrepancies and overdue items.

• Review and submit all relevant statutory and regulatory returns performed by the accounting team.

• Review and approval of journal processing and adhering to control compliance.

• Identify opportunities for innovation and optimisations to drive value and minimise the cost.

• Team supervision, coaching, performance management, training and succession planning.  Participating in setting and achieving individual performance and development objectives to support a high performing culture.

• Contribute to the development of the budget

• Monitor your costs against budget and either address, or advise your manager of, any variances of note

• Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these, or raise them with your manager, as appropriate

• Fully understand the policies, processes and systems which apply to your team’s work and provide leadership so that your team works within these

• Identify any issues around these that interfere with the ability of your team to complete work or meet the plan / strategy. For processes within your authority, make the required changes. For others, escalate these issues to seek action and / or look for alternative solutions

This role is on a band 7 and reports to the General Accounting Coordinator.

Direct Reports will include Accountants. 

Qualifications:

You will need to have:

• BCom Accounting Degree or equivalent B degree at a recognised institution (Honours degree is advantageous)

• Eligible to become a member of a recognised accounting body. (Recommended)

Experience required: 

• 5 Years Financial Reporting/Management Accounting experience.

• 3 Years People management experience.

• Accounting experience in the mining industry/corporate multinational environment.

• HFM experience will be advantageous. 

• Experience working on SAP will be advantageous.
