Role:

The successful incumbent will be the 2IC to a General Counsel who is the doyen of this sector. An incredible growth opportunity within the organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Strategy development aligned with the institution from a legal perspective.
• Manage the value chain, structure and resources required to deliver on the objectives of the legal department.
• Strong and proven leadership qualities that can deliver technically through the divisions
• Oversee and guide the negotiation, drafting plus implementation of complex legal agreements relating to the work of the institution.
• Must have the gravitas to engage various stakeholders, as well as excellent and elevated change management skills.
• Appetite for complex environments with the overall legal expertise solution focused commercial acumen.
• Maintain an awareness of developments in the legal field which might affect the institution and provide reporting on relevant matters for consideration by top management.

Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) / Equivalent qualification plus admission as an Advocate / AttorneyMinimum 10 – 12 years’ experience in legal services and advocacy with at least 5 years in General Management
• Financial and Banking Regulations knowledge
• South African Financial System understanding
• Contract management, project management, procurement, research methodologies
• Strong leader and people driver with an ability to create a healthy working environment
