HSE Commissioning Officer - Cape Town at Lesedi Nuclear Services Pty Ltd

PURPOSE OF ROLE 

To promote competence training, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, disseminating best practice, develop and maintain a Safety Management System, and carrying out behavioural auditing and site inspections for Health and Safety, Environment and Sustainability and to eliminate workplace accidents during Commissioning across all site operations. 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 

• To ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences, significant near-hits, incidents, and cases of occupational ill health in their relevant area are fully investigated using root cause analysis techniques and advise on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence; as appropriate.
• To liaise with Company engineers, managers, and contractors regarding the performance of plant and equipment, to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
• To monitor and report on SHE performance for the site. To monitor and promote follow up action from internal/external audits and incidents.
• To advise the business on compliance requirements for SHE requirements outlined in the Safety Management.
• To attend and advise the safety, health, or environmental committees.
• To support the embedding of sustainable behaviour and practice on site
• To ensure that the organization has access to the latest information regarding applicable legal and other requirements.
• Daily inspections in the workplace.
• Follow up on medical report of injured employees.
• Creating Toolbox talk topics relevant to site activities.
• Co-ordinate mock drills.
• Facilitate Safety Training.
• Ensure tracking of competency certificates and renewal training.
• Identify training needs for site personnel.
• Follow up and close out issued Identified by ECO.
• Facilitate the water analysis for legal compliance.
• Investigate when there are discretions in water quality results.

 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE 

• Technical Diploma in Engineering, or
• Degree in Engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ experience

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of the principles of ISO quality systems.
• Knowing how to read and understand design documentation and technical information.
• Multi-disciplinary understanding in process / power system design.
• High awareness of plant risks and specific hazards associated with commissioning power plants.
