Junior Diesel Mechanic - Mining Projects/Operations at Multiform Human Development

Job Description

• A leading contract mining and mining services company operating across multiple sites in South Africa, is seeking to appoint a Junior Diesel Mechanic, to perform preventative maintenance, servicing, fault finding and repairs on diesel-powered vehicles, machinery and equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation.
• This is an entry level role. The Junior Diesel Mechanic will work under the guidance of experienced artisans and supervisors while progressively developing the technical knowledge, practical experience and equipment-specific competence required to perform maintenance and repairs independently.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Qualified Diesel Mechanic with a recognised Trade Test / Red Seal Trade Certificate.
• Relevant Diesel Mechanic qualification (NQF Level 4 or equivalent recognised trade qualification).
• 0–2 years’ post-trade experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
• Valid South African driver’s licence.
• Basic knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Medically fit to work in a mining / operational environment, where applicable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Performing scheduled and preventative maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles, machinery and equipment.
• Conducting routine inspections and identify defects, wear and potential equipment failures.
• Performing oil, filter, fluid and component changes in accordance with maintenance schedules and OEM requirements.
• Assisting with planned maintenance and equipment shutdown activities.
• Diagnosing and assisting in identifying mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical faults.
• Repairing or replacing defective and worn components.
• Dismantling, inspecting, repairing and reassembling diesel engines and related components.
• Assisting with repairs to transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, fuel systems and other mechanical systems.
• Conducting functional testing following repairs to confirm that equipment is safe and operational.
• Reporting recurring equipment defects and breakdown trends to the responsible supervisor.
• Using tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop machinery correctly and safely.
• Maintaining tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workplace.
• Reporting damaged, defective or missing tools and equipment.
