    Maintenance Engineer

    Main Job Purpose

    • The main role of the Packaging Engineer is to ensure the engineering integrity of the pack plant. This includes responsibility for asset care, cost and performance control, overall reliability and up-time of the packaging lines and the provision of effective engineering support to the production teams, as well as the management of any outsourced maintenance services.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Safety: Ensures that OHS Act and the company safety rules and procedures are adhered to within the area of responsibility. Identifies risks for maintenance/factory activities and addresses them.
    • Budget: Controls and executes work against budget and authorize spending within authority limits. Plans and proposes maintenance budget. Finds opportunities for budget reduction and savings projects without an impact on Reliability.
    • Projects: Acts as Maintenance representative on site projects and conducts forward planning to help filter out the relevant and important projects in the department. Guarantees Early Equipment Maintenance implementation at beginning of the project.
    • Plant Asset care and reliability: Ensures that machines are maintained as required and according to the maintenance schedule (current improvement methodology on site is World Class Manufacturing)
    • Implement the asset care plan for the Packaging plant.
    • Lead the critical supplier’s supplier partnering program and monitor service agreements.
    • Support packaging performance improvement by conducting and leading performance optimisation initiatives
    • Ensure that predictive maintenance techniques are implemented correctly.
    • Ensure effective routine and planned maintenance activities are carried out.
    • Ensure compliance to maintenance planning and execution of maintenance outage.
    • Verify that the maintenance systems are working properly, and that data integrity and information accuracy is maintained.
    • Review plant reliability to ensure equipment is operating optimally and to identify problems or opportunities timeously.
    • Ensures that the spares required for maintenance are available and are procured according to quality specifications.
    • Ensures that breakdowns/ adjustment losses are handled promptly, and proper root cause analysis (RCA) is done.
    • Manages action plans from maintenance activities (condition-based maintenance, Maintenance Tags, RCA)
    • Ensures that engineering-related losses are identified and eliminated/reduced.
    • People: Lead the Packing Engineering team of 20 (technicians, artisans and apprentices) in a manner that stimulates ownership and empowerment.
    • Lead the development of Packing Engineering team goals and ensure these are communicated and understood by the team. Entrench a high-performance culture by conducting regular Packing Engineering team goal review sessions and performance reviews. Ensure training need analysis are conducted and training plans developed for team members Ensure appropriate competencies are developed in the team, Execute the technical gap plan for the plant. and ensure multi-skilling occurs within the Packing and broader engineering team.

    Skills/Experience

    • Proficient leadership and management experience across strong Teams, Stakeholders and Suppliers/ Third Parties/ Contractors
    • Minimum requirement: N. Diploma/BSc: Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
    • Eligibility to write GCC is an added advantage.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in maintenance management with a successful track record as Engineering Foreman, or maintenance planner.
    • 5 years’ experience within FMCG/ Manufacturing environments. packaging background and working knowledge of packing equipment (smart packers, etc.) preferred.
    • Sound knowledge of WCM.
