    Manager: Civil

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Manager: Civil to take responsibility for the oversight of the design, construction, and maintenance management of civil and structural infrastructure.  

    As a Manager: Civil, you will be responsible for:

    • Manage SHEQ requirements for all service providers at Sappi: Civils
    • Guide and monitor the civil teams on the correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work
    • Support ISO9000 (Quality Management System), ISO14001 (Environmental Management Standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System), and OHSAS 18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section
    • Ensure adherence to legislation (National Building Regulations, Municipal bylaws, Asbestos Abatement Regulations etc.) and participate in Plant Safety Committee meetings
    • Drive the use of plant reliability monitoring techniques to ensure proactive maintenance and reduce downtime
    • Review and update civil maintenance strategies of the mill's facilities, buildings, roads, structures, services, and hydraulic structures
    • Continuously improve civil and structural maintenance through the implementation of preventative maintenance
    • Monitor maintenance work in progress on a daily basis.  Take corrective actions for any deviations from the schedules
    • Define, technically justify, motivate, and drive optimal plant improvement initiatives through technical investigations via the asset maintenance management practice
    • Involvement in the initial stages leading up to the execution of projects, including planning, budget preparation, review of safety requirements, identification and specification of the requirements by other built environment professionals, and soliciting expertise from various stakeholders (land surveyors, geotechnical engineers, architects, and other discipline professionals)
    • Manage small to meduim project for infrastructure renewals and capital projects
    • Inspection of completed projects to ensure that all spesifications, codes and regulatory requirements have been satisfied and safety issues addressed
    • Scoping of civil and structural infrastructure work and method statements
    • Participate in the annual civil maintenance budgeting process to meet the maintenance strategy by tracking and monitor costs against planned budget for all civil costs in the mill
    • Plan RFQ and tenders in conjunction with Procurement in accordance with the maintenance strategy as and when the needs arises
    • Manage contractors and contracts against SLA’s and scopes to ensure efficient and safe delivery
    • Oversee the section's maintenance team's recruitment, recognition, performance management, remuneration, development, and discipline

    What are we looking for?

    • BSc / BEng / BTech in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
    • 5 + years relevant experience in a heavy industry
    • Maintenance Management experience within a manufacturing/mining industry would be advantageous
    • Construction Management experience within a large construction industry would be advantageous
