    Manager, Finance

    Job Advert Summary    
    PURPOSE: To ensure Business sustainability through optimised Financial, Cost Accounting, Supply Chain Management and Commercial functions.

    • MAJOR CHALLENGES:  Maintain a sustainable high-performance culture within a continually changing environment.  Align various functions in portfolio i.e. (Finance, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Risk Management, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Costs).  High impact/complexity of decision making (Marketing, contracts, procurement, clients, strategy).  Diverse Independent Business Unit operating in Corporate, National and International environments.  Complexity of Ferrosilicon (Product) operations.

    Minimum Requirements    

    •  BCom (Hons) Finance (Essential/Minimum)
    •  Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
    •  Chartered Accountant (CA) (Recommended/Desirable)


    • 6-8 years Relevant Business Operations knowledge; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); International Financial Reporting standards; Companies Act; Income Tax; Commodity knowledge and other relevant areas
    • Essential/Minimum: Importance
    • Operational: Involvement


    •  Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
    •  Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
    •  SA Institute for Chartered Accountants (Recommended/Desirable)

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:

    Best Practice and Knowledge Management

    •  Confer and share strategic, tactical and operational information with relevant stakeholders to discuss issues, coordinate activities and resolve problems related to execution of company strategy
    •  Monitor exchange and preservation of information between operations and individuals

    Business Growth and Development

    •  Interpret Business Unit (BU) strategies to provide financial support in delivering on Business Strategies
    •  Provide input into overall Finance strategy to ensure strategy is in alignment with and supports BU strategies
    •  Ensure strategy and related initiatives are integrated and aligned with the Company strategy and business plans
    •  Establish appropriate financial and overall BU performance synergies aligned with Best Practise

    Business Performance and Operations

    •  Financial reports, statements and consolidated budget/forecasts and strategic plans for BU
    •  Manage Service Level Agreements (SLA's) and take action to correct deviations
    •  Monthly management and board reports (including ad-hoc BU reporting requirements)
    •  Performance accounting for BU/Business Partner
    •  Analyse and identify variations from budget
    •  Manage Business income tax, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and compliance
    •  Active involvement in business strategy and execution
    •  Manage preventative audit and risk management processes
    •  Oversee the Supply Chain Management (SCM) portfolio and develop strategy and execution plan for SCM portfolio
    •  Allocate and monitor utilisation of financial resources and capital expenditure to facilitate efficient cash-flow management
    •  Prepare and control annual budget
    •  Measure and track performance against approved business plans and budgets
    •  Manage resources and assets
    •  Approve/seek approval of relevant contracts and documentation in line with SCM's budgetary stipulations

    Compliance, Governance and Assurance

    •  Provide information to Management to ensure that all policies, procedures, standards and guidelines are developed taking into account specific requirements of Business Unit
    •  Ensure implementation of policies and procedures are in alignment with government legislation and charters
    •  Interpret and enforce legislative and corporate governance requirements to manage risk and consequences of non-compliance within BU
    •  Ensure compliance with statutory and non-statutory requirements

    Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management

    •  Support core business by ensuring appropriate stakeholder relation- ships toward enhancing corporate profile
    •  Manage internal and external relations, including interface with external providers or other functions responsible
    •  Ensure promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout designated area
    •  Represent the Company at applicable forums
    •  Provide relevant and specialised support to applicable stakeholders

    Effective People Management

    •  Clarify roles and responsibilities and expectations for all subordinates
    •  Define individual performance standards, monitor and measure performance, reward and recognise high performance
    •  Apply consistent performance and consequence management, take prompt action against non-performance Act as change agent to foster an environment where people seek out better ways of operating team and sub-team processes
    •  Lead and motivate staff to achieve performance excellence
    •  Create an environment of accountability and trust Proactively address conflicts, initiate difficult conversations
    •  Ensure staff resources are efficiently deployed, trained and developed
    •  Ensure support, coaching and mentoring for all staff

    Financial Management

    •  Evaluate best production and Marketing plan aligned with Business Plan
    •  Prepare and control BU annual budget by forecasting revenue and costs and monitor expenditure and working capital/assets
    •  Approve expenditure according to approval framework
    •  Measure and track performance against approved forecasts and budgets
    •  Manage, allocate and monitor utilisation of financial resources and assets
    •  Research and ensure that best practices are implemented and managed

    Functional Excellence

    •  Standardise, simplify and speed-up functional processes, eliminate duplication/bureaucracy
    •  Develop and apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices/knowledge
    •  Execute functional excellence initiatives
    •  Identify and report critical functional risks

    Safe and Healthy Work Environment

    •  Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures in line with set standards
    •  Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations
