    Manager: Group Technology Data Management Organization

    Purpose:

    The Group Technology (GT) Business Data Management Organisation is responsible for ensuring that GT data is managed as an asset i.e. it is accurate and of high quality. Enabling GT to unlock the value of its data via practical implementation of data principles, policies, standards, strategic directives and assuring proper security and privacy of data.

    The Data Management Lead role entails leading the Data Stewardship team in facilitating end-to-end operational implementation, management, maintenance and monitoring of data standards and good practices across the GT data landscape as well as providing input into the Group’s Data Management/Governance strategy.

    Responsibilities:

    • The data management lead is responsible and accountable for strategic input into the Group Data Management and Governance strategy and direction, as well as the end-to-end operational implementation, management, maintenance and monitoring of the Group Data Governance Framework within the relevant cluster within Nedbank. This would include implementation of the Group data policy suite, together with the data management strategy and implementation road map.
    • Understand and document the GT’s data landscape by understanding and documenting the definition or terms, assuring data quality and managing appropriate access to GT data.
    • Ensuring that all ambiguous terms are resolved so that the consistency and integrity of GT data can be assured, especially related to the data that is gathered and stored within Operational Data Store (ODS) environment.
    • Must have the ability to break the data landscape into manageable segments or domains (these being considered a collection of activities related to a function e.g. Infrastructure & Operations, Security, Programme Management etc.), understand each domain and what contributes to data quality in that domain.
    • Implement plans to rectify and track the data quality with the relevant data owners until the issues have been resolved, while continuously reporting progress at the relevant forums.
    • Optimize data:
      • Plan to optimize the data landscape by aligning with the target data architecture
      • Propose any remedial actions and get these approved by management
      • Review all data optimization opportunities i.t.o. Priorities; Common or general opportunities; Dependencies and sequencing; Feasibility; Viable alternatives
      • Support and educate all stakeholders on the principles and workings of the data governance framework:
      • Develop and implement a communications programme to raise data governance awareness throughout the relevant cluster
      • Establish a data quality management framework, specifically related to the identified reports, metrics, activities, information flows and data stores
      • Become the first point of contact for the resolution and/or discussion of operational data governance issues affecting the relevant cluster or Nedbank Group.
      • Confirm that adequate controls are put in place to ensure completeness, accuracy and security of data stores, information and activity flows, and ensure these are maintained over time
      • Review data lineage and ensure that all transformations are complete, accurate and comply with security measures
      • Update activity and information flows with any gaps identified
      • Perform data profiling consistently and facilitate the development of information standards and minimum data required
      • Facilitate, receive and consider reports on material data governance incidents/breaches, undertake or recommend remedial actions, and where appropriate, escalate accordingly
    • Propose any recommended remediation bearing the following in mind: Priority; dependencies; feasibility and viable alternatives.
    • Create and agree a remediation plan with actions and priorities that are sequenced in relation to any dependencies. Report progress at relevant forums.
    • Where required, interact with the various bodies and committees relating to Group Data Governance (in order to provide operational leadership with regards to data governance).

    People Management:

    • Ensure that the DMO is properly resourced, internal support and reporting structure is in place, tools and processes are in place etc.
    • Manage performance of staff - Implement performance agreements, ensuring a clear vision, agreeing on goals and objectives, providing regular feedback on performance, recognising and rewarding achievement
    • Mentor and coach staff on identified performance gaps
    • Motivate staff to perform and contribute to the success of the business
    • Encouraging participation in decision making processes.
    • Build capability of self and staff - Maintain a capable high performing team and ensure an environment for optimal performance is created. Identify talent pool through conducting career conversations, utilising the talent grid principles and developing talent retention programmes (e.g. rotation).
    • Identify current and future training and development needs.
    • Ensure self and staff understand and embrace the Nedbank Vision and Values
    • Ensure transformational target are met for own team through consideration of targets during the staff recruitment, retention and training process and utilising suppliers listed on the preferred supplier list.
    • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals
    • Participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.).
    • Address issues raised in culture surveys by participating in the development and implementation of action plans.
    • Create a client service culture through various required interventions.
    • Support and encourage staff to participate and support corporate responsibility initiative.
    • Achieve operational excellence

    Job Related Experience & Exposure:

    • 5 -8 years’ experience in IT, Risk and Data/BI environment
    • Analysing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data
    • Analysing situations or data that requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors
    • Answering customer questions and brainstorming ways of improving a product or situation
    • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Challenging the status quo with a view to improving the environment or peoples understanding
