    Mechanical Artisan - uMhlanga

    Role summary

    • The Mechanical Artisan is responsible for all mechanical related systems of the facility including maintenance of Air conditioning systems and the repair, maintenance and installation of mechanical machinery and equipment.

    Key work output and accountabilities

    • Repairs, maintenance and supervision of all refrigeration, air conditioning, vacuum, medical gas, compressor, autoclave, boiler, hot and cold water systems
    • Perform maintenance tasks
    • Maintenance of all plant rooms
    • Inspection and fault localization of broken down machinery, according to instruction manual(s) and technical knowledge
    • Scheduled and emergency start-up of plant and machinery in accordance with the operating procedures, when required
    • Routine maintenance on plant and machinery, as stipulated by servicing schedules of the equipment, and/or as requested by the Supervisor/Manager
    • Preventative maintenance planning and implementation, according to Company Policies and Procedures, as determined from time-to-time
    • Manufacturing of simple parts as required from time-to-time, with the equipment available, within safe limits and conditions
    • Monitoring and quality control of all contractor work carried out on hospital equipment for refrigeration, air-conditioning, vacuum, medical gas, autoclave, boiler, hot and cold water systems
    • Reporting on the condition and functionality of the plant and machinery

    Skills profile
    Education
    Essential

    • National Trade Diploma
    • NQF Level 5 Engineering Qualification or higher
    • Working in a hospital environment

    Work experience
    Essential

    • Experience in working on air-conditioning systems with knowledge of air compressors, vacuum pumps, autoclaves, emergency generators, chilled water systems, hot and cold water reticulation and medical gas systems will be a decided advantage

    Knowledge

    • Computer literacy is a definite advantage (MS Office (Word and Excel) and email)
    • The ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
    • Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations relating to machinery and building regulations
    • The ability to communicate effectively with a diversity of people which includes suppliers, staff, doctors and patients
    • The ability to identify and understand problems and opportunities; so as to enable you to take the appropriate action, and find a suitable solution
    • The ability to plan and organise work for self and other to ensure efficient completion
    • The ability to produce work of a high quality standard by accurately checking processes and tasks
    • Ability to travel independently due to 24hr functionality of the hospital environment
    • Maintaining of full and accurate records for all maintenance work and services undertaken on plant and equipment under this position’s control
    • To perform a stand-by function in accordance to Policy
