Mechanical Design Engineer - Bellville, Cape Town at ACTOM (Pty) Ltd

A vacancy exists in the Package Boiler Business Unit, Bellville, for a person who will be responsible for the specification, design, drawing, testing and commissioning of mechanical equipment relating to steam and hot water boilers and ancillary equipment, in accordance with national and international standards and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

•  Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering
•  Professional registration with ECSA or in the process of being registered (preferred)

EXPERIENCE

•  Minimum 3 years relevant experience in an industrial environment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Design of mechanical equipment based on technical specifications obtained from customers
•  Design of project specific equipment based on specifications received from the Sales department
•  Liaise with PB Design Office to ensure that manufacturing drawings are technically correct and contain all the information/specifications required to execute projects
•  Approve and take engineering accountability for drawings issued by the PB Design Office
•  Conduct project post mortems in conjunction with the Design Office, Contracts Department, Manufacturing and the Field Services departments to ensure that designs are updated to incorporate lessons learned during the execution of projects
•  Create and maintain bills of materials (BOM’s) on the company Material Requirement Planning (MRP) system

SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS

•  Have a better than average academic record, especially in the fields of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Stress Analysis
•  Have a good understanding of national and international standard and regulations
•  Be able to interact with customers at all levels
•  Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English
•  Be proficient in Excel incl. Visual Basic Programming, Word, Inventor 3D, Plant 3D and Ansys Fluent
