    Mechanical Technician - Secunda

    Job Purpose

    The Mechanical Technician within the ALLISA organisation provides technical support to maintenance managers, engineers and foremen by applying theoretical skills and making suggestions and independently implementing solutions to optimise systems.

    • Apply analytical techniques (PDA, RCA, Fishbone, fault finding) and provide innovative solutions to new concepts across functional boundaries to resolve problems. 
    • Decide which techniques should be used to resolve problems.
    • Provide an expert technical consultation service across multi-disciplines and operations and contribute to major technical decisions in specific work environments.
    • Contribute to the improvement of the ALLISA Asset performance process through linking equipment challenges with loss monitoring systems.
    • Develop plant operating philosophies along with multiple disciplines to account for future changes in the environment.
    • Perform tasks in accordance with Engineering principles across multi-disciplines, lead trouble-shooting teams and deviation management investigations.
    • Manage service level agreements (SLA’s) and update as required. 
    • Manage complex schedules, communicate delays, meet deadlines and keep all stakeholders well informed.
    • Manage document system, ensure reviews are up to date for SOP’s and ensure procedural compliance.
    • Act as a Project Leader for small and medium projects.
    • Apply deviation management tools and techniques to solve problems and implement  effective solutions.
    • Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports for area of responsibility.
    • Align to the ALLISA Safety and Health strategy to achieve zero harm.
    • Ensure safe project execution and implementation of work procedures.
    • Register, drive implementation and close MOC’s (Management of Change) as per ALISSA standards.
    • Oversee execution of statutory inspections and management (reduction) of overdue statutory inspections.

    Educational requirements

    • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering 
    • B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)

    Experience

    • Six (6) year practical experience in an operational environment as Mechanical Technician. 

    Knowledge and Know-how specific to the job

    • Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of Engineering  principles, systems and procedures 
    • Must have detailed knowledge and understanding of Plant operations and processes
    • Must have a strong knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety rules, regulations and and procedures
    • Must have a strong knowledge and understanding of Project Management
    • Must have a  strong knowledge and understanding of Navision, SPF, CMMS, Microsoft Products and Google suite of products
