Medical Laboratory Technologist - Observatory at Desmond Tutu Health Foundation

Requirements

• National Diploma or B. Tech in Medical Laboratory Technology 
• Registration with HPCSA as a Laboratory Technologist 
• At least 2-5 years of laboratory work experience 
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet)
• Excellent communication (verbal & written) skills
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
• Attention to detail

 Advantageous:  

• 1-2 years previous Clinical Research Experience 
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures  
• Good Clinical Practice Certification 
• Good Clinical Laboratory Practice Certification
• IATA training

 Responsibilities: 

• Ensure appropriate identification and collection of specimens 
• Ensure correct processing of specimens in the lab according to SOP 
• Perform Rapid Tests and report results 
• Prepare specimens for collection and liaise with laboratory with regards courier collection 
• Inform study coordinator of abnormal results as per study protocol 
• Manage laboratory documentation and Standard Operating Procedures 
• Responsible for internal quality control (IQC) and external quality control (EQC) programs 
• Temperature monitoring of laboratory areas, fridges and freezers
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment
