MFC Production Operator (Furnace) (Middelburg) at Samancor Chrome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• To safely operate the Furnace, Raw Materials System (RMS) and auxiliaries in order to produce High Carbon Ferrochrome.

BUSINESS PROCESSES 

Production:

• Load the furnace in order to obtain the desired operating conditions
• Operate the DC Arc Furnace on a shift basis
• Operate Reductant and Ore driers according to procedures and for optimal efficiency
• Control electrical operation of the furnace to smelt the burden efficiently
• Control the proportions of raw materials required for the smelting process
• Operate the Raw Materials System (RMS) according to procedures and for optimal efficiency
• Control the furnace cooling system
• Inspect the furnace and auxiliary systems and action non-conformances
• Inspect the RMS, Ore and Reductant driers and action non-conformances
• Operate the Off gas scrubbing plant and Effluent treatment plant (ETP) according to procedure to ensure optimal performance, availability and to minimise pollution
• Control all access control registers and key/remote control registers

Analysing:

• Sample raw materials and analyse moisture content
• Analyse process data for furnace stability
• Do plant inspections and action non conformances

Maintenance:

• Create notifications on MES/SAP for maintenance work
• Assist with first line maintenance
• Prepare the furnace for maintenance
• Prepare the Driers and RMS for maintenance

Reporting:

• Update the Furnace log sheets on the MES system
• Update Ore and Reductant drier log sheets on the MES system
• Update shift and production log sheets on the MES system

General:

• Be prepared to work in a hot and dusty environment
• Work overtime as and when required

Requirements
Minimum qualifications: 

• Grade 12 or N3 or N3 that is equivalent to a Grade 12/ Matric (4x Technical subjects or 4x Business subjects and 2x Language subjects)
• 3 years’ relevant experience in a heavy industrial production environment

• Computer Literacy (MS Office)
• Acting experience in a Furnace Operator position
• Samancor Basic/ Metals Production Learnership
• Experience in tapping a furnace
