Multimedia Producer Internship (English, Johannesburg) x 2 at The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

• To develop, edit and support the production of SABC News’ multimedia content in English and compile related features / special reports to increase content engagement and audience growth.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Conceptualise, brainstorm and produce multimedia content in English for SABC News’ digital / online platforms
• Compile features and special reports for SABC News’ online and social media platforms
• Research stories and potential newsmakers / interviewees through various news mediums
• Create various forms of multimedia news, data stories and features, including infographics, digital news cards, listicles, explainers, animation and relevant audiovisual content etc
• Assist SABC News with graphic design projects and daily assignments, such as modifying images and creating designs for distinctive features
• Write and produce original stories / content from pre- to post-production, on and off the field, such as mobile journalism stories in the form of packages, podcasts, voiceovers and various forms of visualisation tools
• Provide digital and multimedia support to all SABC News platforms
• Keep abreast of the latest news, developments, trends and upcoming events
• Inform team leader/s of story developments and progress
• Maintain constructive and effective relationships with all stakeholders
• Communicate professionally and effectively with critical production areas such as Digital News’ Multimedia Editors
• Compile analytics and other required reports, including production ones
• Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution, all laws, ICASA licence conditions and regulations, BCCSA and Press Council codes and rulings, the SABC Editorial Policies, including those set by partners such as Google, YouTube and internal Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms such as SABC+, the News style guide and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

REQUIREMENTS:

• National Diploma in journalism or any other relevant tertiary qualification
• Excellent news sense, editorial judgement and general knowledge
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• Excellent understanding and use of social media as a journalistic tool and opportunity to promote SABC News and Current Affairs and engage its audience professionally
• Experience of website content production, such as Content Management Systems
• Multimedia or mobile journalism, graphic design, video editing and live streaming in the digital news environment will be advantageous
• Understanding of current trends in news and digital media
