    Music and Scheduling lead (Midrand) at Kagiso Media

    Description

    We are seeking an experienced Music and Scheduling lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for

    providing strategic direction to the overall musical sound of the station. Oversee the broadcast output of the radio station by managing the rotational playlist (by means of selection and research) to produce an attractive music mix for the target demographics, which will retain and grow the station’s P1 audience increasing CUME and increase Time Spent Listening (TSL). As well as Produce a daily sequenced broadcast playout schedule comprising songs, imaging, features, promos and advertising in line with station strategy.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Music & Scheduling :

    • Program the detailed sequence clocks in Selector and Linker to ensure the correct scheduling of music, imaging, promos and advertisements.
    • Program the rotational playlist by means of rules, policies and turnover management.
    • Oversee daily schedule integrity in terms of music, imaging, promos and advertising – ensure 100% “ready-to-play” status and user-friendly appearance of the log in studio.
    • Ensure that music is compiled in accordance with the strategy which is derived from consumer research “music mapping”.
    • Ensure that the ICASA local content quotas are adhered to for the performance period.
    • Manual music compilation of the entire station’s day parts (24 hours, 7 days a week)the company.
    • Manage the delivery of station promos and imaging, per the refresh calendar

     Music Research and selection:

    • Oversee all aspects of music research in conjunction with the research field service;
    • Manage auditorium music tests (AMTs).
    • Manage and brief in callout research every two weeks (For implementation by R&I)
    • Manage and brief in perceptual music research. (For implementation by R&I)
    • Manage and brief in Listener Advisory Boards (LABs).
    • Adhere to current music trends by staying abreast of music developments in the United Kingdom and United States.
    • Stay up to date with the local music scene, with specific reference to the Afrikaans pop music industry.
    • Ensure that the music playlist reflects results of the music research and current needs of the target audience.

    Stakeholder Management:

    • Liaise with record companies, artist representatives and artists.
    • Liaise with Music Scheduling and play-out software companies.
    • Liaise with Mediamark with regard to daily traffic log.
    • Manage external stakeholders feeding into station imaging

    Programing and Administration:​​​​​​​

    • Maintain general maintenance of the Selector and Linker databases to ensure that it remains in good working order.
    • Oversee the loading and categorising of music to the Selector and Zetta databases.
    • Compile monthly SAMRO report.
    • Compile monthly ICASA report.
    • Compile reports showing rotations and frequencies of songs that have been played.

    Leadership:​​​​​​​

    • Lead the the music & scheduling  team. Encourage a healthy work culture and positive work ethic in the department.
    • Manage the performance of team members and develop individuals.
    • Delegate to department to ensure best possible spread of workload.
    • Provide support, encouragement and administer discipilnary action when necessary.

    Implement Strategic leadership:​​​​​​​

    • Attend daily PT (Product Team) meeting where decisions are made, and direction given in terms of the station’s daily output and events or promotions.
    • Attend weekly Operations Meeting.
    • Assist with the planning of logistics for programming events such a major station promotion or outside broadcasts.

        REQUIREMENTS:

     EducationalRequirements:​​​​​​​

    • Unless the applicant can demonstrate that he/she has developed the necessary competencies through experience, a qualification in Broadcasting/Media or related field. 5 years in a radio station programming/scheduling department.

    Skills and Experience Requirements:​​​​​​​

    • Selector/ Linker/ Master Control/ Scheduling software.
    • Basic Sound mixing and editing knowledge. 
    • Thorough and demonstrable knowledge of JacarandaFM’s market
    • Excellent ear for music, and station flow
    • Exceptional organizational and admin skills
    • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the South African Music Industry, including airplay and recordings.
