New Product Developer at The Shoprite Group of Companies

Purpose of the Job    

• The Shoprite Group is Africa’s largest retailer with over 35 million customers and 2,500 outlets. We have recently renewed our commitment to driving the diversification and growth of our Fresh Foods offerings. This is a super exciting growth opportunity for the Shoprite Group as we endeavour to better understand and partner with our customers to meet their needs, build their trust and optimise the potential of our Fresh Foods offerings. To achieve the ambitious plans defined by the team, we need highly talented people to join us in playing a key role in shaping the face of our Fresh Foods across Africa.

Job Objectives    
The successful incumbent will be responsible for the development of products for the Foods department through the following process:
1. Tend research and strategic planning
2. Concept ideation
3. Development of recipes,
4. Conducting factory trials
5. Drawing-up of specifications
6. Costing evaluation and approvals
7. Packaging approvals based on specification
8. Negotiation of costing with buyers and suppliers
9. Ensuring adherence to specifications with the launch of new products
Qualifications    
Qualification at a Culinary School (preferred)

• 3-year degree in Consumer Science (Food & Nutrition)

Experience    

• 2-3 years experience in product development
