    Nursery Field Research Associate

    The African Plant Breeding Research and Development team innovatively develops hybrid seed product to serve African producers and consumers.

    Your Challenge

    • Planning and execution of high-quality nursery and seed production experiments through mechanized planting
    • Execution of harvesting, seed processing and inventory management supported by the implementation of mechanized seed processing systems
    • Supporting the deployment of global technology solutions to improve local operations. Supporting the maintenance and monitoring of efficiency of local equipment fleets
    • Contributing directly to the improved efficiency of field research operations.
    • Contribute directly to all seed preparation (treatment, planning, counting and packing) workflows and tasks for the location

    Key Stakeholders And Interactions

    • Local and Regional Plant Breeding Research and Development team and site leadership. Local EHS&S teams. Interaction with regional Logistics Leads and RESTS teams.

    To Grow What Matters, You Will Need

    • Applicable qualification in National Degree and/or Diploma in Engineering, Agruiculture or related field or 5 years’ of appropriate, proven experience in precision farming equipment or mechanized research field experimentation.
    • Must be customer-service focused with solid organizational and planning skills
    • Ability to manage priorities in a multi-task environment and supervise subordinate employees appropriately.
    • Strong communication skills are essential. Ability to work well in diverse teams and display flexibility as seasonal/workload needs dictate.
    • High aptitude for learning in an agile environment. Highly motivated towards problem solving leveraging global learnings/best practice.
    • Knowledge of/experience in working within a quality management framework beneficial
    • Engineering/Machine shop experience beneficial
    • Ability to do work outside for extended periods of time, physical lifting and working in varying ergonomic environments
    • Experience in working in research seed nurseries beneficial
    • Attention to detail/accuracy focus essential.
    • Experience in working with IT systems and varied software solutions critical
    • Ability to work independently and make timely decisions with an ownership mindset
    • Agricultural knowledge of crop systems and agronomy, seed production systems and/or seed processing is advantageous but not a requirement.
    • High workload with long hours and weekend work during seasonal peaks
    • Physical ability to lift15kg, ability to stand/sit for extended periods
    • Valid South African Code B minimum drivers license - experience in diving precision farming equipment beneficial.
