    Operational & Resilience Risk Manager 2LoD

    Job Description

    Accountability:

    • Risk Management Understand and apply the relevant risk and governance procedures to activities undertaken and ensure that the relevant risk management processes, control environment requirements and risk management frameworks that impact the area are documented and understood and also captured on Operational Risk Management System (ORMS) (as applicable).

    Analyse implemented Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk Management Framework effectiveness

    • Conduct on-going review of the performance of the Operational and Resilience Risk Management Framework. This requires providing check and challenge to ensure that all risks have been considered and appropriately addressed within the specific business area being supported.
    • Support the Operational and Resilience Risk Managers with on-going analysis, review and oversight of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCA), Risk Event Management, Key Indicators (KI), Key Risk Scenarios, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Lessons Learnt (LL) but not just limited to the above elements- Information captured on ORMS, CPA, MCA, RCA and LL, Issues, Actions , dispensations (DWB) etc. and Risk event reconciliation.
    • Perform on-going data quality checks and validations on all components of the Operational and Resilience Risk Management Framework, extracting data from ORMS, including performing independent validation checks on the data captured on ORMS.
    • Display professional behaviour whilst ensuring the appropriate check and challenge with the respective Business area the Operational and Resilience Risk Managers supports, raising and discussing contentious observations with the Operational and Resilience Risk Managers and providing evidence to support all issues identified.
    • Oversee and perform (where appropriate) deep dive- and lessons learnt exercises for significant and material risks, including the review, challenge and tracking / escalation of findings.
    • Operational and Resilience Risk Policy and Standard conformance testing.
    • Monitor and track the effectiveness of the control environment (MCA, CPA, RSA, Risk profile etc.) and to take action to further mitigate operational and resilience risk where required within the mandate of the supported Business Units risk profile.
    • Support Operational and Resilience Risk Managers with review of Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), and Product Risk Governance. 
    • Use the Operational and Resilience Risk framework to facilitate the identification of all possible risk and ensure corrective controls (which are aligned to this framework) are implemented by the relevant business area risk managers to mitigate these risks.

    Accountability: Support the Operational and Resilience Risk Manager: Policy & Framework

    • In providing support on automation of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) and Operational and Resilience Risk Management Framework (ORRMF) in the approved operational risk management system (ORMS) as well as in resolving issues.
    • In driving the implementation and use of the ERMF & ORRMF in the business areas.
    • Report on results analysis to the Operational and Resilience Risk Managers.
    • Support development of operational and resilience risk techniques for the business area supported by the respective Operational and Resilience Risk Managers.

    Accountability: Data management

    • Prepare monthly data extracts per framework component to support the Operational and Resilience Risk Managers (to be obtained from the approved operational risk management system [ORMS]).
    • Apply appropriate data quality checks on this data and prepare reports on an exception basis on data quality issues.
    • Ensure timely capturing of risk management issues, risks events on the ORMS by the relevant 1LOD business partner(s).
    • Review, check and challenge of data captured on ORMS (RCSA, CPA, MCA, Risk events, Risk event reconciliation, RCA and LL, Issues, Action, dispensations (DWB) etc.).
    • Support the Operational and Resilience Risk Managers with periodic reporting requirements (monthly, quarterly and annual).

    Relationship Management

    • Develop and maintain relationships with key 1LoD business risk partners, 2LoD Business and Group partners and stakeholders, and external business partners.
    • Engage closely with stakeholders, identify the Business Units requirements, and encourage open discussion and interaction with business on the risks associated in their environment.

    Technical Skills

    • Deep understanding of operational and resilience risk principles
    • Strong analytical and logical reasoning abilities
    • Ability to interrogate and interpret risk data
    • Proficient in risk systems (e.g., ORMS)

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Finance, Audit, Risk Management, or related field (NQF Level 7 required).
    • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a financial institution.
    • 4–5 years’ experience in Risk Management or Internal Audit.
    • Demonstrated experience in Operational & Resilience Risk (required).
    • Experience in Unsecured Lending, including but not limited to Credit Card, Personal Loans, and Collections.  (advantageous).
