Operations Manager: Sport (13383) at The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT OF THE OPERATIONAL PLAN

• Provide support and input in the development and implementation of business unit strategy.
• Monitor and manage departmental inputs and outputs to ensure maximum efficiencies.
• Provide input into the development and implementation of the business plans.
• Develop operational standards and ensure the attainability & sustainability.
• Develop services level agreement and monitor implementation.

BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

• Communicate sports venues and activities in order to co-determine annual plans in accordance with requirements.
• Respond to dynamics and changes within the sports environment and adjust logistical plans accordingly.
• Manage and control Programme operations budgets and encourage cost containment.
• Inform Finance and Sales & Marketing of events and costs and communicate implications to stakeholders.
• Effective utilization resources to meet the SABC sport requirements
• Initiate the draft for legal contracts
• Manage the independent contractors.
• Review and Report on the achievement of business units objectives. (Monthly, quarterly and annually).

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

• Determine the budget and monitor the implementation in according with policies.

GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

• Identify, monitor and report on the operational risk and compliance matters.
• Develop SOP for the business unit and monitor implementation thereof.
• Provide inputs on the development of the policies.
• Development and implement internal control measures to ensure good governance.
• Comply with relevant legislations and policies.
• Implement Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Implement Risk Management Plan in line with organizational Risk Framework.
• Implement internal risk audits identified and mitigate gaps.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

• Liaise with sports bodies to ensure efficient and effective logistics and facilities provisions for production purposes.
• Provide stakeholders with sports menu and information, for the purpose of determining coverage of events.
• Communication timeous with internal and external stakeholder on changes of sport events

LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

• Effective implementation of Performance Management System in accordance with organizational policy and procedures.
• Adequate staff for workload, succession planning and effective leadership.
• Effective briefing and communication with department staff.
• Career Development Plans (CDP) for all staff members.
• Provide direction on the retention and attraction of staff.
• Effective and efficient utilization of team members in accordance with production requirements to ensure delivery.
• Manage the employee relations to ensure conducive and productive working environment.
• Oversee the implementation of organisational development initiative i.e. Wellness, Employment Equity, Career Progression, Talent, Human Capital Planning etc.

REQUIREMENTS

• Diploma/Degree in Business Administration/Finance or equivalent qualification.
• 6 Years Sport broadcasting experience of which 3 finance operations.
• 2 years’ experience in broadcasting on Managerial/Supervisor level
• Knowledge of Business planning
• Project management
• Understanding Legal concepts and negotiations
• Understanding of different sporting code and legislations.
• Budget management
• PFMA and relevant national treasury regulations
• Strategic management
• Financial accounting standards
• Understanding of technology trends
• Trend analysis
