    Packaging Material Planner

    • The Packaging Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted availability of all packaging components required for production, while optimizing inventory levels, cost, and supply chain efficiency. The role coordinates closely with Planning, Production, Sourcing, R&D, Warehousing, Quality and Suppliers to translate production plans into accurate material requirements, manage replenishment, mitigate supply risks, and maintain strong governance across the packaging supply stream. This position plays a critical part in enabling reliable production execution, reducing waste, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement within the materials planning process.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Degree/Diploma in Supply Chain.
    • Minimum 3 years FMCG experience required.
    • Planning and functional business process knowledge.
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    • Relevant SAP experience.

    Technical Skills:

    • ERP/MRP Proficiency.
    • Advanced Excel Skills.
    • Master Data Management.

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Packaging Materials Planning & Replenishment:

    • Convert the production plan into detailed material requirements and ensure timely replenishment of all packaging components.
    • Ensure that the production plan set by the production planners can be met timeously by calling off raw materials in advance.
    • Maintain optimal inventory levels by balancing supply reliability, working capital, storage capacity and shelf-life constraints.
    • Generate and manage purchase requisitions or planned orders, ensuring accurate lead times and order quantities.
    • Works closely with the production planner, ensuring that where supply constraints exist, these are built into the forward plans. The time period is in weekly buckets, 0 – 52 weeks forward.
    • Assist with month end stock count with the warehouse and production team monthly.

    Supplier Collaboration & Performance Management:

    • Communicate material forecasts to suppliers and follow up to secure confirmed delivery dates.
    • Track supplier performance (OTIF, responsiveness, lead time adherence) and escalate risks proactively.
    • Review, document and manage Material SLA’s with suppliers with necessary approvals where adjustments are implemented.
    • Participate in supplier review meetings to support continuous improvement actions.

    Production Support & Issue Resolution:

    • Provide the production team with real-time visibility of material availability and constraints.
    • Coordinate fast-tracking, rescheduling, or alternative sourcing when material shortages or quality issues threaten production.
    • Work closely with Quality, Sourcing and Warehousing to resolve blocked stock or non-conformances.

    Inventory Governance & Master Data Accuracy:

    • Monitor inventory levels, aging, and shelf-life risks, and recommend actions to mitigate write-offs.
    • Ensure the accuracy of planning-related master data (MOQ, lead times, pack sizes, safety stock, sourcing rules).
    • Maintain system parameters in ERP/MRP to improve planning accuracy and stability.
    • Process MRP Material Exceptions with follow through action to solve on SAP on a weekly basis and ensure that all orders are placed within the stipulated lead times.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication:

    • Align with Sourcing, Production, R&D, Quality, and Warehouse teams to support business continuity and new launches.
    • Communicate supply risks, mitigation plans, and stock projections to internal stakeholders with clear timelines and impacts.
    • Participate in S&OE/weekly planning meetings to provide packaging material insights and updates.
    • Manage, update, track and report on Working Capital monthly and or as required. Identify opportunities for improvement and cost optimization to drive efficiencies and savings.
    • Meet suppliers weekly to identify and manage possible constraints in short medium- & long-term horizon, maintain customer-supplier relationship and drive continuous improvement.

    Reporting, Analysis & Continuous Improvement:

    • Produce and distribute packaging material availability reports, KPIs, and exception lists.
    • Analyse supply chain trends, recurring issues, or bottlenecks to drive process improvements.
    • Support initiatives that reduce waste, improve forecast accuracy, enhance supplier reliability, and streamline the replenishment cycle.
    • Contribute to the innovation process by managing material run downs and write-offs for new product launches, re-launches, SKU rationalisation, VIP projects, working closely with the production planner to ensure that all plans are optimized and run out schedules are accurately maintained.
    • Ensure the timeous delivery of stocks to site with collaboration with relevant cross-functional teams for support and/or escalations.
    • Assist the business with scenario planning information as required.
