Parent Seed Planner and Inventory Manager – Africa at Corteva Agriscience

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• To plan, co-ordinate, oversee and advise on the storage and distribution of parent seed of all crops within the Corteva Company for the African production region. Ensure alignment of Parent Seed inventory demand and supply plans to meet parent seed requirements for commercial productions of all crops.
• To co-ordinate routine inventory management optimisation projects, inventory counts, Parent seed exports, as well as manage the Parent Seed quality.

MANAGEMENT OF PARENT SEED INVENTORY

• The incumbent will be responsible for managing Parent Seed inventory of all crops. Inventory management should be done cost-effectively and with the aim of maintaining lean, high-quality seed in storage.
• Ensure FIFO stock holding, lean inventory management, continuous process driven inventory management optimisation.
• Ensure that warehouse supervisors comply with inventory management practices and processes.
• Liaise and plan with processing and warehousing facility supervisors to ensure commercial Parent seed requirements are met.
• Initiate all Parent Seed discarding processes and support plant and warehouse supervisors in this regard.
• Regularly monitor all Parent Seed Inventory quality.
• Ensure availability of updated parent seed stock figures at the various crop production meetings to support the planning of Parent and Commercial seed productions for the next production season.
• Ensure timely, efficient, and effective yearly Parent Seed stock takes and subsequent reconciliation actions implementation.
• Ensure regular collaboration with Global Quality stakeholders for support on AME Parent Seed Inventory Quality.

MANAGEMENT OF HIGH-LEVEL PARENT SEED STOCK MOVEMENTS

• The incumbent will oversee and control the processing, storage and subsequent distribution of all seed sent to the parent seed conditioning plant and housed in parent seed stores in Rosslyn, together with, parent seed at all other storage locations. The general principles of loss control will be applied.
• Co-ordinates all parent seed requests for seed production purposes both local and export.
• Determines which parent seed stocks are suitable for despatching and approves parent seed distribution to all production areas.
• Ensures adequate security is maintained of seed being distributed from warehouses.
• Ensures adequate stock control of stored seed in all storage locations in AME.

CO-ORDINATION OF PARENT SEED EXPORTS

• Chair regular Parent Seed IP&C Meetings
• Co-ordinate Parent Seed Exports with all stakeholders including Parent Seed demand, field, inventory, and exporting teams.

OVERSEE AND CO-ORDINATE PARENT SEED QUALITY

• The incumbent is expected to oversee parent seed quality control systems focusing on both genetic and physical seed quality.
• Communicates impurity problems to relevant production agronomists, area managers where necessary; Ensures that impure seed lots are either discarded or used cautiously with the knowledge of such impurity.

ADMINISTRATION

• Controls routine matters associated with the duties of Parent Seed Inventory Manager.
• Ensures effective stock control systems are operational and linked to a computerised data base.
• Ensures correct and timeous Inventory movements.
• Attends useful meetings and conferences.
• Maintain and improve detailed systems to ensure optimised warehouse management systems.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO CONDUCT THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY

• Education : Min. B.Sc (Agric) or B-Tech in Agriculture, or other suitable tertiary education.
• Legal requirements : Min.
• Training : Min. Short Courses in Seed Technology, Ideal: Same and Production Course

• Experience (career path one should ideally follow before reaching the present position):
