Peer Educator / Driver (Key Populations) at TB HIV Care

Purpose of the position:

• To conduct out-reach activities in the community of people who inject drugs by providing current accurate health information, providing HIV counselling and driving the outreach team to designated and scheduled sites daily.

Minimum Requirements    

• Grade 10
• Valid Code 08 or 10 driver’s licence with PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
• Accredited finger-pricking HIV testing certificate
• Minimum of 2 years driving experience
• Minimum of 6 months experience in HIV counselling and testing
• Good communication skills
• Proficiency in English and isiTswane/any local language
• Clear criminal record

Duties and Responsibilities    

• Identify and educate PWID clients on prevention interventions
• Distribution of HIV prevention commodities
• Actively identify the need to refer clients to other multi-disciplinary teams
• Provide accurate and current health information to PWID using a variety of delivery strategies
• Ensure safety of the outreach team safe driving by driving and adhering to the regulations
• Continuously assessing and reporting any need for repairs or maintenance of the vehicle
• Maintain relations with health services managers, indoor managers/owners and other gate keepers/stakeholders
• Utilise the record keeping formats provided for data capturing and reporting
• Actively participate in mapping
• Provide support and encouragement to PWID
