    Pr.Eng -Senior Mechanical Engineer (EPCM Platinum Mining Project/Process Plants - Execution Phase) – Bryanston

    • The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and discipline governance for all mechanical engineering activities associated with the Platinum Project in Zimbabwe.
    • The role is responsible for ensuring that mechanical equipment and systems are engineered, procured, installed, commissioned and handed over safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, engineering standards, statutory requirements and operational objectives.
    • The incumbent will act as the mechanical discipline authority, providing strategic technical direction, reviewing engineering deliverables, managing technical risks, supporting project decision-making and mentoring junior engineers throughout the project lifecycle.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng).
    • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum 12–15 years of mechanical engineering experience.
    • Extensive experience within mining, minerals processing or heavy industrial projects.
    • Significant EPCM project delivery experience.
    • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
    • Proven experience on large greenfield and brownfield projects.
    • Extensive construction, commissioning and operational readiness experience.
    • Strong vendor management and contractor management experience.
    • Platinum processing plant experience will be highly advantageous.
    • This role is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, supporting engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational readiness activities to ensure successful project delivery.
    • We are specifically looking for candidates with strong mining, EPCM and mineral processing experience, particularly involving large-scale processing plants. Candidates should have extensive experience in mechanical equipment design, installation, commissioning and handover within complex mining environments.
    • The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall report to the Project Manager: Capital Projects and will work closely with other Project Office team members, Engineering Consultants, Construction Team, Commissioning Team, Operations personnel, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Engineering Leadership & Design

    • Lead the mechanical engineering discipline throughout all project phases.
    • Review, approve and provide technical oversight of mechanical engineering deliverables.
    • Review process plant layouts, equipment arrangements and mechanical designs.
    • Review mechanical equipment sizing, selection and specifications.
    • Provide strategic technical guidance during engineering reviews.
    • Ensure engineering consistency across all mechanical systems.
    • Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and value engineering initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable engineering standards and statutory requirements.
    • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers and graduates.

    Procurement Support

    • Lead technical evaluations of vendor proposals and supplier submissions.
    • Review and approve technical specifications and procurement documentation.
    • Participate in vendor clarification meetings.
    • Support supplier inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
    • Review vendor drawings and ensure compliance with project requirements.

    Construction Support

    • Provide senior technical support during construction.
    • Resolve complex site engineering issues.
    • Conduct quality inspections and engineering audits.
    • Review non-conformance reports and recommend corrective actions.
    • Support construction planning and contractor performance management.
    • Ensure installations comply with approved engineering documentation.

    Commissioning & Operational Readiness

    • Lead mechanical commissioning activities.
    • Oversee mechanical completion and system handovers.
    • Support integrated commissioning with electrical, instrumentation and process disciplines.
    • Verify equipment performance against design intent.
    • Support operational readiness activities and plant optimisation.
    • Provide technical support during ramp-up and initial production.

    Technical Governance

    • Identify and manage technical risks.
    • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews and risk assessments.
    • Review management of change (MOC) documentation.
    • Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into project execution.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the project.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Promote and demonstrate a strong safety culture.
    • Ensure compliance with all project safety standards, statutory requirements and company procedures.
    • Participate in incident investigations where mechanical systems are involved.
    • Champion safe engineering practices throughout design, construction and commissioning.

    EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

    • Primary work location: Bryanston, Johannesburg, South Africa.
    • Site travel to Zimbabwe will be required periodically based on project requirements.
    • Employment type: Fixed-term contract.
    • Remuneration: R160,000 per month Cost to Company (CTC)
    • Travel, accommodation and approved site-related expenses incurred during project travel will be covered in accordance with company policy.
    • The successful candidate shall be responsible for complying with all applicable taxation requirements in their country of residence.
    • Payments may be subject to applicable statutory deductions, including Zimbabwean withholding tax requirements, currently understood to be 5%, in accordance with prevailing legislation and any applicable double taxation agreements.
    • The Company reserves the right to make any mandatory statutory deductions required by law.

    CONTRACT DURATION
    This position is offered on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, commencing on a mutually agreed date, with option to extend.
    The contract may be extended based on:

    • Project requirements and progression.
    • Individual performance.
    • Continued support requirements during construction, commissioning and operational readiness phases.
