Basic R425 qualification(i.e. Degree/Diploma)in nursing or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council(SANC) as a “Professional Nurse” with Midwifery A post basic qualification in ‘Operating Theatre Nursing Science’, with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC Certificates of Registration with the SANC (General Nursing and Midwifery) Current registration with the SANC (2026)

Grade 1: a minimum of 4 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Experience
Grade 2: a minimum of 14 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognizable experience in the specific specialty (i.e. Operating Theatre Nursing Science) after obtaining the 1- year post-basic qualification in the relevant specialty.
Knowledge, Skills Training and Competencies Required: Demonstrate an in depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices. Possess communication skills for dealing with patients, supervisors and other members of the multidisciplinary team including the writing of reports when required. Good human relations displaying a concern for patients, promoting and Advocating proper treatment and care including a willingness and awareness to respond to patient’s needs, requirements and expectations (Batho Pele) Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and Financial policies and practices. Demonstrate basic computer literacy as a support tool to enhance service delivery. Ability to plan and organise own work, time and that of support personnel to Ensure proper nursing care in the unit.

Provision of optimal, holistic specialized nursing care with set standards and within a professional/legal framework in the Operating Theatre. Effective utilization of resources. Participation in training and research. Provision of support to nursing services and multidisciplinary theatre teams. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development. Display a concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care including awareness and willingness to respond to patient needs, requirements and Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure good nursing care that is cost Effective, equitable and efficient. NB: Must be prepared to work shift as per allocation; includes night shift, weekends and Public Holidays.
