Purpose:

• To plan, organize, lead and control the Project Engineering function effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications:

• B Eng (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum)
• Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
• Government Certificate of Competence (Recommended/Desirable)
• Certificate Project Management (Recommended/Desirable)

Experience:

• 8-10 years Relevant mining, plant and project experience
• Importance : Essential/Minimum
• Involvement: Operational

• Project Management Professional (Recommended/Desirable)Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:

Compliance, Governance and Assurance

• Ensure statutory compliance of new projects
• Access and communicate impact of legal developments on project strategies
• Ensure legal compliance within the project by implementing appropriate systems
• Participate in, and implement governance systems for assigned projects according to the agreed Project Estimation and Measurement Systems (PEMS)
• Conduct assurance reviews
• Communicate objective and share safety and health expectations
• Ensure Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) recommendations (conducted during feasibility) are included in final design
• Appraise design from a safety and health perspective
• Implement effective Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) management and quality management systems to ensure delivery of high quality project engineering within budget and on time

Customer and Client Relationship Management

• Support core business by ensuring appropriate stakeholder relation- ships toward enhancing the corporate profile
• Manage internal and external relations within the region, including the interface with service providers and applicable Business Unit (BU), as well as other functions responsible to ensure that the business needs are met, and employees are satisfied
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement forums within Engineer and represent the Company in a professional manner
• Communicate project engineering plans and outcomes to all stakeholders

Engineering analysis, design, planning and implementation

• Implement project management principles and practices for the planning, design and implementation of project outcomes
• Conduct complex analysis of project systems and processes

Project Management

• Establishment of project management protocols
• Develop, direct, coordinate and integrate the implementation of engineering function of large to major sized projects; within the Group
• Accountable for reaching deadlines within scope of assignment
• Manages the interdependency of engineering deadlines on assigned projects and preserves integrity of deadlines and overall project progress
• Conduct audits and reviews of projects in various phases within specialist area
• Support implementation of appropriate knowledge management for projects in line with business needs
• Lead the investigation of project engineering management problems and develop solutions toward optimising and assuring project delivery

• Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures in line with set standards
• Encourage a culture that focuses on safety in all operations

Specialised Support

• Provides expert advice/guidance
• Ensures contract compliance, administration, finance, cost control and client and contractor project coordination
• Takes a comprehensive approach to identifying problems, understanding implications and creating solutions
• Select, design, integrate and commission new technology
• Manage project interfaces within the project environment and clients
• Maintain internal and external professional networks
• Provides project consulting regarding capital improvement and renovation projects including project review, planning, cost assessment, design, bid award process, scheduling and construction
• Identify specialist skills required, and contract specialists
• Manage integration between project, specialists and design consultants

Technical Support

• Develop a project engineering strategy, processes and systems to implement, manage and coordinate project engineering
• Manages projects with a broad impact across BU’s, which can lead to paradigm shifts in the changes of the strategic direction of the Commodity
• Develop and implement risk management processes to mitigate high level risk
• Coordinate the optimal utilisation of resources for the engineering function in the project
• Benchmarking of best practice and ensuring application of appropriate technology on projects
• Generate new knowledge of fundamental significance that will influence current procedures/practices/policies/designs/strategies and ideas
• Identifies and solves tactical and strategic problems across engineering disciplines
