    Regional Claims and Insurance Specialist

    Position Purpose:

    • To manage insurance and claims brought against the Eastern Cape regional terminals, reduce, prevent and eliminate risk and liability exposure. Settle and repudiate claims against the terminals and develop standard terms which control liability.
    • Manage the claims officers at all of the terminals.

    Position outputs:

    • Manage and coordinate the regional claims and insurance portfolio, litigation, mediation and arbitration matters as cost effective as possible through the administration of Common Law principles in the best interest of TPT.
    • Embedding the insurance and claims SOP across the region as well as the conditions of trade and benefits of the various claims and insurance portfolios
    • Managing all aspects of claims and related administration in accordance with the insurance placements and policy terms whilst adhering to all legal and regulatory requirements
    • Ensuring that all claims are recorded and administrated in accordance with the agreed inner excesses, stop losses and aggregates
    • Ensuring that comprehensive records/files are maintained of all claims for internal, insurer and audit review
    • Submitting monthly schedules and statistics to the insurers and brokers
    • Manage Internal as well as external payments and recoveries
    • Follow up on the Group Payments of group insurance premiums
    • Liaising with attorneys on matters requiring litigation and manage internal liaisons
    • Compiling complex claims documentation for review with insurers and loss adjusters
    • Managing and resolving of all insurance related queries efficiently
    • Creating statistical reports of all nature of losses for use in risk reports
    • Ensure compilation of insurance renewal questionnaires and all other relevant information required to maintain and renew the various portfolio policies
    • Ensure high quality analysis of portfolio information to support sound management decision making
    • Investigations into the claims, costing, evaluation, and subsequent settlement of claims with input/approval from the relevant terminal, department, management and all other appropriate stakeholders
    • Maintenance of proper documentation and controls to support payment of claims
    • Implement and manage appropriate processes to ensure that all insurance related information is obtainable by internal and external stakeholders
    • Interrogation of all claim costing – e.g. cargo, assets, 3rd parties etc.
    • Ensuring that all portfolio related incidents are reported, administered and finalised in accordance with all appropriate
    • Policies, Procedures, Processes, Standards and Guidelines (PPPSG’s)
    • Ensuring that all portfolio related incidents are reported and administered on the appropriated systems and intervene in none reporting
    • Ensure, manage and facilitate all functional training pertaining to the portfolio and that sufficient programs are in place to ensure an informed regional terminals community.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    Qualifications:

    • Matric
    • National Diploma or B Degree
    • in Risk Management / or B Degree
    • in Art, or B Degree in Law, or LLB

    Experience

    • 5 years operations management experience
    • Must have at least 2 years’ experience as a Junior manager in insurance management -claims and litigation
    • A thorough understanding of all aspects of insurance and interpretation of policy documentation
    • Experience with the following systems: TOMS, MS Excel, MS Word, SAP and MS Outlook
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan and execute projects
