Registered Counsellor Grade 1 (Sessional Contract Ending 31 March 2027)
Honours Degree In Psychology. Current registration with Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Counsellor (Independent practice). Knowledge of mental health legislation and related legal and ethical practices, PFMA, and Public Services Act and Regulations. Good communication, interpersonal, IT, and human resources management skills.
Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary context. Analytic thinking, independent decision making and problem-solving skills. Applicant must be in possession of a valid South African driver’s license (proof must be attached). A completed Z83 form should accompany the application.
Duties :
Within the Scope of Registered Counsellors: Screening, assessment and rendering of counselling related interventions: (e.g. Counselling, Crisis Intervention, Debriefing, Problem Oriented Intervention, and Trauma & Suicide).
Psycho-education and mental health promotion in PHC and for external stakeholders. Conducting mental health campaigns as per the departmental calendar. Organize and manage clinical activities such they are proficient and integrated. Liaise with mental health multidisciplinary team and other health programmes where necessary and assist in coordinating appropriate referral pathways. Provide development, training, and clinical supervision of generalist health staff, undergraduate, and post graduate students through appropriate consultation.
Ensure collaboration and communication with other health staff (training and support) to integrate these mental health services into their service delivery objectives. Management of projects and mental health related initiatives. Assist in the development of Organizational Norms, Standards and Procedures. Willingness to travel. Willingness to work long hours
