    Research Officer/Senior Research Officer

    The successful candidate will design and coordinate the research program under the urban mining theme and supervisepostgraduate students, help expand the existing research program into areas of ASM and other sustainable hydrometallurgy projects and develop and deliver course materials (especially for online offerings) towards the various educational programs.
    S/he will also play a central role in coordinating the communication of MtM activities to its members and collaborators nationally and internationally.
    Minimum Requirements:

    • A PhD in natural or engineering sciences;
    • Good qualitative and quantitative research skills;
    • Knowledge of the fundamental principles of hydrometallurgy; experience with the associated software tools would be an
    • advantage.
    • An understanding of the mining industry in an African context, for example through work experience in an actual mining
    • operation, would be an advantage.

    Additional Requirements for Appointment at the Level of Research Officer

    • A minimum of 2 years of research experience post-PhD in the minerals or extractive metallurgy fields;
    • Experience in postgraduate supervision;
    • Experience in teaching in postgraduate training;
    • Evidence of academic writing ability, preferably through publications in international accredited journals.

    Additional Requirements for Appointment at the Level of Senior Research Officer

    • A minimum of 4 years of research experience post-PhD in the minerals or extractive metallurgy fields;
    • Experience in postgraduate supervision to graduation;
    • Experience in teaching and curriculum development in postgraduate training;
    • Evidence of strong academic writing ability through a record of publications in international accredited journals.

    Responsibilities:
    Plan and develop and develop the various research projects in the context of the grants funding the position;

    • Communicate with project partners and funders and coordinate project meetings;
    • Supervise and co-supervise postgraduate students and undergraduate research projects;
    • Publish research outputs in accredited journals and scholarly books;
    • Present research findings at seminars and conferences at local, national and/or international events;
    • Drive the identification of research funding opportunities, and develop and write research grant applications;
    • Develop and deliver on-line course material for the various MtM educational programs;
    • Coordinate contact sessions of the educational programs, especially LEAD;
    • Develop a management system for MtM’s research facilities, especially the Hydrometallurgy laboratory
    • Coordinate communication of MtM activities through its website, promotional material and various internal events
