Short Description / Purpose of Job

• Lead the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) agenda, roll-out the ERM programme and provide ERM support to SEO driving required risk studies, assessments and reviews. Ensure integrated risk studies, assessments or reviews are completed as it may relate to strategy execution and value chain risk considerations.
• Serve as the single point ERM contact within SEO for management of SEO’s top risks on an integrated basis and act as primary interface for the Energy ERM Function. Ensure adequate integration with other risk-based functions within SEO, Energy and the Group, as well as provide SEO regional risk support to functions as required.
• Ensure application of Sasol’s Risk Policy, ERM Framework, ERM Procedures, Processes and Standards/Guidelines as provided by Group and Energy ERM.
• Ensure entire ERM governance and reporting processes are followed within the business and operations, as it relates to area of responsibility, including sign-off by management and executives. Lead the scheduling, functioning and agendas of the SEO Risk Committees, as well as SEO ERM reporting to this Committee, the Operations Committee, Energy and Group (as required). Provide guidance on risk escalation protocols including reporting to Energy and/or Group.
• Facilitate and/or advise on required ERM risk studies, assessments or reviews across all levels in the business and operations including VPs, SVP, and EVP (when required), and ensuring integration with other risk-based functions to ensure a complete view of top risks for SEO, as well as risk support to key business and operations projects/initiatives. Give effect to the 2nd level assurance role from an ERM perspective in the context of required RCP risk assessments and other agreed risk processes and outcomes as required.
• Lead the enablement of ERM through systems / technology leveraging existing risk platforms in SEO where required. Ensure all SEO ERM data and information is kept updated on the system and that appropriate sign-offs, business rules, escalations and governance over SEO ERM are built in the system (as applicable to SEO). System to be leveraged to ensure required risk dashboards at all required levels are established and required ERM reports drawn from the system.
• Drive the enhancement of assurance practices as it relates to SEOs top risks and associated key responses/ critical controls, applying combined assurance management principles. Ensure effective integration with other assurance role-players and providers as it relates to ERM and SEOs top risks.
• Influence business risk culture and promote risk awareness to ensure proactive management of risk. Train businesses on ERM tools, processes, systems and procedures.

• Ensure an optimal and effective Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program anchored in SEOs top risks with required integration with other key risk, assurance and control role-players.
• Driving improved predictability as it relates to potential risk impact on business performance and delivery on objectives.
• Act as a primary interface and first point of contact for all ERM requests and support. Ensure effective business and operations partnering and management of key stakeholder relationships critical to drive effective management of risk in the short, medium and longer-terms.
• Regular engagements with the wider Energy ERM Function and Group to apply the ERM framework within the business and operations. Compliance with ERM frameworks and minimum standards provided by the Energy or Group ERM Function.
• Coordinate and integrate appropriate and required risk engagements with business and operations.
• Drive risk processes in the business. Apply tools, methodologies, processes and frameworks as laid out by the Energy and Group risk functions.
• Risk reports completed and signed off by management and/or executives on time.
• Risk register developed, updated and critical controls identified, designed adequately and operating effectiveness monitored.
• Understand Group top risks, Energy, entity and consolidated top risks and relevance for area of responsibility. Act as sounding board for business and operations manging and assessing risks, as well as developing and executing key responses / critical controls.
• Facilitate internal and external audit of the business by providing necessary materials and access Audit preparation in place and on time. Implementation of corrective/remedial actions as identified through assurance processes. Audit findings actioned and implemented.
• Work with the combined assurance team to implement combined assurance management principles across SEOs top risks and develop combined assurance plans / landscapes where agreed and required.
• Drive risk thinking within the business/operations and promote a risk aware culture. Risk culture embedded throughout the business/function governance structure.
• Train businesses on tools, policies and procedure. Accurate reporting by businesses.

Formal Education

• University Bachelor's Degree
• Post Graduate Qualification (preferred)

Min Experience

• 11+ relevant years in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) or related fields
• 5+ years’ experience in Operations or relevant support function (preferred)

Certification & Professional Membership

• Institute of Risk Managenent South Africa (IRMSA) Membership (preferred)
